Which has created more political/social division in our modern age?

@roboneko@neckbeard.xyz @wolf480pl @Moon IIRC, Unity transcompiles C# into C++. I wasn't talking about 3D games specifically. For 2D, it's fine.

@lanodan Aren't they all public domain now? Plus, I think ~90% are lost to time regardless.

There are probably a lot more libraries that are Windows only, but I'm pretty sure that's going to change as time goes on.

I honestly, wouldn't recommend C# outside of indie/hobbyist game development (using Unity, Godot, Xenko, or MonoGame). The Java gamedev scene seems to be dead outside of Minecraft and it wouldn't surprise me if MS ends up killing the Java version of that.

@roboneko@neckbeard.xyz @wolf480pl @Moon Well, Windows Forms (the default GUI library) is still proprietary and Windows only. GTK# seems to be the most popular cross-platform GUI library.

Visual Studio is also Windows only, but VSCode is cross-platform and open source. There is also MonoDevelop which is the default IDE for Mono.

@wolf480pl @Moon ASP.NET and Entity Framework are both open source now. As for third-party stuff, Blazor and DotNetNuke are open-source web frameworks for .NET.

@wolf480pl @Moon Mono has been around since 2004 and .NET is pretty much open-source now. C# still seems to be frowned upon in the FOSS community because Microsoft can still fuck with the language whenever they want, but if you don't care about that and just want to make games it's a pretty good language for just that.

@Bro-Drillard @Moon Don't have that much experience with that outside of web stuff. I know Java was somewhat popular as a server-side language for websites, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

From what I can tell, Golang seems to be the go to language for general server stuff now.

@Moon It doesn't surprise me that it's still used for internal software. It's still the preferred language at my college, but I hate it. C# is much better IMO and it's one of the few things Microsoft got right.

@Bro-Drillard @Moon All the popular uses for it seem to have been replaced

* Java applets - Replaced by JavaScript
* Indie game development - Mostly done in C#, Lua, and JS now
* Android app development - Kotlin seems to be replacing it even though it still uses JVM
* Web server stuff - I hardly ever see a .JSP extension on the web anymore

@Moon Does anyone even use Java anymore outside of Minecraft and Android? It seems like it's dying off.

@Cocoa China and the USA are two heads of the same NWO hydra.

@ArdanianRight @ChristiJunior@neckbeard.xyz @milk When I finally get down and finish a game.

Thunderous New “Atmosphere” Publication: “Warming Of Last 20 Years Mainly Caused By Cloud Changes”
“However, one thing can already be stated: the warming of the last 20 years has been caused more by change in clouds than by the classical greenhouse effect.”
Thinning low level clouds let in more warmth, its not CO2.
