periodic reminder that while we love that you feel cozy on poast, you should make yourself an instance and federate with us. having your own instance isnt necessary but if you have a group of people it's often better because you can have a tight knit community, custom emojis and whatever else.

i will always help those who ask for it when it comes to setting up instances or otherwise maintaining them. there's a large group of admins that can help, too. it's cost effective (and you can even host free if you choose oracle's free tier option)

People often tell me that IRC is a decentralized protocol.
Technically they're correct.
However, look at how many OSS, FOSS, and FLOSS projects choose to rely on Libera.Chat (and before that they all relied on Freenode), and reconsider the whole "decentralized" part.
They could have just set up their own IRC server instead, it's not that hard!
