@bajax @Junes I swear like 10-15 years ago being pro free speech was the default position of most western people but everyone gave it up so easily. Even a lot of people on here don't give a shit about free speech - they just happen to presently be the victim of censorship and would implement their own version of it if given power. Even saying "I support free speech" is practically considered embarrassing now. The most battered wife of a principle, yet the most important.

Slowly going to add more and more stuff to this image as I find it... this may end up becoming a pointless pile of nothing, though.

We'll see.

> Every OS provider must then: provide an interface at account setup collecting a birth date or age, and expose a real-time API that broadcasts the user's age bracket (under 13, 13 to 15, 16 to 17, 18+) to any application running on the system.

heh. the california version is the only one that actually got it right (`User isAdult` as an api call)

I'm addicted to arguing with people online and it causes me a non-insignificant amount of distress. It's pointless. I don't think I've ever "changed someone's mind" on anything. Whether it's because I'm just bad at debating or I'm always talking to brick walls it's just fruitless. I really need to stop doing it.

AI bot account warning…

Some moderators were discussing a string of fediverse sign-ups by a single account on multiple instances: “andy_agent.”

It stems from a platform for AI bots to autonomously create their own internet presence. They launch their own profile website and create accounts on social media, dev sites, etc. So we will undoubtedly see more of them.

It’s wild that I even have to write this.

We now have access to powerful and complex tools at no cost, it can be overwhelming. Sometimes the best way to spark creativity is to add contrains. Try restricting your color palette, or work with just cubes, or even try a more limited tool. Boundaries can push you!

One of the reasons why, over time, I've learned not to condemn things outright is that life itself teaches you something important: sometimes you have to make the wrong choice for the right reasons.

Life is full of compromises. And the more you live, the more you learn (or should learn) to be at least a little tolerant of the choices others make, even when they seem to clash with your own convictions.

In the past few weeks I've had to make decisions I would never have imagined a few years ago. Choices very far from my own point of view. But sometimes reality pushes you into a corner, and the options are simple: give up, or make a "wrong" choice now and fix things later.

A recent example I can share: I advised a client to reinstall Windows 11. I wasn't happy about it, but at that moment there was no real alternative.
This morning he told me their software will soon move to a web-based platform. Which means the next step will be a new FreeBSD server and, at that point, the clients can move to Linux or a BSD system.

Fight your battles. Stand for what you believe in. But try to remain clear-headed.

Life teaches that you often go farther by moving slowly but steadily toward your destination, stopping every now and then to look around.

@gabe I've read most of the article. It doesn't seem AI generated. The author is just attempting to debunk DD's claims RationWiki style. He is accusing DD of cherry-picking (a common criticism of his site), but I feel like PurplePriest's articles might be cherry-picking sources as well.

I'm not an avid reader of DD and I think he has some rather crackpot takes (I remember him suggesting people eating literal shit because it's rich in certain minerals and that other animals do it), but I think this article is just stupid. It "debunks" two and one section of his articles and an article from someone else.

Most of it seems to be him refuting DD's takes on COVID and modern medicine. Admittedly, even the conspiracy theorists were wrong on a lot of things related to COVID (like the idea that all vaccinated people would be dead in less than 5 years among other things), but I still feel like those who were skeptical about COVID had the right to be skeptical, especially when scientists can be bought of by drug manufacturers which I don't see being brought up once in the article. Anyway, I don't think any of that even matters right now as COVID is long over (go away Jeff) and we should be focusing on the current trajectory of society.

Though I do agree with one part of the article where PurplePriest talks about how conspiracy theories are appealing to some because some like the idea of being a "lone genius", and that mentality could hinder someone's ability of getting ahead in life and instead just dooming oneself into being an introvert, and I have noticed that COVID caused a lot of people to go on a "red-pill overdose" to the point that they can't get a decent job or enjoy the beauty of the world anymore. However, I do believe we need a level in questioning-of-authority to prevent society from traversing into the wrong path.

Man, a lot of you are posting the same memes I've seen posted like yesterday

Do I really gotta go on Facebook again to refollow all these meme pages so I can post the good shit again that nobody else is posting?

I would like to drop armhf (armv6) support in #AlpineLinux. The only current hardware I am aware of that is armv6 is Raspberry Pi Zero series (EOL 2030). I don't think it is worth the extra effort to support both armhf (armv6) and armv7 at this point.

Do you think we should drop armhf to free up some resources?
