@kumicota Well, given that they see everything through a political lens, they can still cancel you, even if you don't have a social media presence connected to your FOSS presence.
By my principles, I object to including CoCs or banning people for off-site conduct and that makes me cancel-worthy right there.
Though I do regret not brushing up my programming skills for the past decade. Was way too suckered into the current events going on at the time even though they didn't affect me and it really distracted me from doing what I truly loved.
Ok, I thought I'd seen it all.
A bloated AI generated rust implementation of emacs for the sake of being written in rust:
Looking back on it, I'm actually kind of glad that I have never created or contributed to a *major* open-source project, even though I could've been a huge skill and resume booster because had I been a micro-eceleb in that field, I would've had a nasty encounter with the usual suspects sooner or later and that would've ended my career right there.
As a kid, I used to deeply hate arts, singing and photography.
Now, that I do Karaoke, cosplay and photography as an adult, I realized, that all of these things I hated... I hated them only because I was forced to participate in their lowest form.
Imagine 30 kids each trying to out.false each others song, so that one of them can be the special one in that song. The one to be heard.
Or parents framing family in the center just to have a frame where nothing stands out. Just pose where everyone can be recognized.
And an art teacher ignoring any vision, just thinking that kids will find themselves in an unorganized time with pencils. Maybe ocasionally forcing them to use a method they don't like to get a result they never cared about.
Can I blame these people for not starting these hobbies earlier? I have honestly no idea. But the lack of perfection as a goal was present in all of these cases. And I will have to think about what that means myself.
"Gaming is prohibitively expensive these days, you can't play video games for an affordable cost anymore!"
Ladies and gentlemen, the humble $200 Alienware Alpha.
Are you going to be able to play the latest AAA games on it? Can it run the latest graphics techniques like DLSS and ray tracing? No.
Will you have fun with the myriad of indie games and massive PC gaming back catalog, as well as emulation of a dozen retro consoles? Hell yeah!
This little guy was my first ever gaming PC. Jumped straight into modded Skyrim with it, lol. I still own one from over a decade ago and, although it has about the power of a PS4, that certainly doesn't prevent you from having fun with it.
There is a whole world of gaming just waiting for you to uncover it. Outside of the latest and "greatest" games getting shoved in your throat. And no, it's honestly not that expensive to get into at all. In some ways, gaming has never been cheaper. You just have to temper your expectations a little bit and you'll find so much joy.
@Hephaestic @sun He's honestly the one person who actually deserves to be on Drew's hit-list.
