Stop confusing the situation for people, because you're diluting the actual threat and making it worse for everyone. Feel-good story of the day: Truck owner, after finding his truck was stolen, happens upon it in an adjacent lot with the thieves still in it. The owner pulls gun and tells them to take a seat on the ground (citizen's arrest, and the article implies but doesn't outright say he called the cops to take them off his hands and file charges).
Two minutes later, thief pulls gun and shoots the truck owner. Truck owner returns fire and kills thief and now attempted murderer, rendering the thief dead.
No charges filed on truck owner.
