“In the case of Colorado’s and California’s bills, effectiveness is lost. In the case of New York’s bill, liberty is lost.”
Carl Richell, System76 Founder and CEO, urges New York to reject S8102A OS-level age verification.

It turns out that Brazil and the state of New York are passing even worse OS-level age verification laws as they require actual ID verification (the California law only requires a DoB input). The worst part is that the Brazilian law will be in effect in less than 13 days.

We are thrilled to announce the public availability of Fairplayer for Faircamp, the first step in our vision of a #decentralized #music platform.
After a few months of building, and the generous help of artists who have participated in our trial period, https://fairplayer.band is open to the world. If you are an artist that has a #Faircamp site, or someone wanting to listen to music from independent artists, come and tell us what you think!
Special thanks to @radisolar @blankfosk @helenbellmusic @maciac @sofisoft @kidlightbulbs @aymanhamad @laribal @txels @james @Omar @choan who have already contributed their music in this very early stage!

Anyone who thinks the "ribbon" in Microsoft Office is somehow better is nuts and three lines to indicate a file menu is also just as crappy (looking at you Firefox). This insistence on hiding critical functionality in "modern" UI design started with Microsoft as far as I can tell around 2003. Yes- it pre-dates the "ribbon" by a long time. All I can say is LibreOffice is the FAR superior choice. Not because they offer a "ribbon"-like interface obviously, but because they offer a traditional user interface that actually works.
There is a reason people have been driven to GNU/Linux more and more with each passing year. Besides it getting better it's primarily shitty decisions by the "tech" industry, ie Microsoft, Apple, Google, etc.
Did You Know Gaming just released a documentary on the WonderSwan a few days back and it got me thinking that there should be a revival of handhelds that adopt Yokoi's design philosophy.
For a while, I've had an idea of a handheld system that can be played with one hand. The d-pad or analog stick would be on the front face of the handheld and the buttons would be on the side.
I have no plans on making it, but I think there is still a market for dedicated handhelds like this. The only handheld that is doing anything like this is the Playdate and from what I can tell, it isn't very cheap.
