A utility worker installs one in 15 minutes and it is invisible. It reads plates at 155 miles per hour from 328 feet away. It streams live video around the clock. The company is called Axon. They already make the body cameras, the Tasers, and the cloud server where most police departments store their footage.
While every activist in America was focused on tearing down Flock cameras, Axon was quietly installing the ones you cannot see.

Axon just paid $625 million for the company that runs your city's 911 system. That company was founded by Israeli special forces and intelligence operatives. An early investor was a former commander of Unit 8200, Israel's equivalent of the NSA. And the money behind it traces back to a fund that included Jeffrey Epstein. I know it sounds like some crazy conspiracy theory - right?

It's sad that people still don't understand the dangers of a surveillance state and the threat to freedom AND democracy it posses.

It's not just the cameras, but license plates, drivers licenses, and social security numbers.

The issue isn't credit, loans, or similar. These things can exist without any of these things. Credit existed BEFORE the social security number.

Drivers licenses didn't exist until automobiles and never really had to do with safety. It was bigotry against automobile owners at a time when they were seen as more of a nuisance as most people didn't own an automobile yet. Even after drivers licenses became a thing there weren't written tests or road tests even as recent as the late 1960s in some states.

A social security system can exist independent of it being obligatory or forced at scale.

"REAL ID" was never for genuine security. It was a reaction to 9/11 and yet every one of the 9/11 hijackers would still be allowed to board a plane today. They had drivers licenses and "REAL ID" doesn't prevent a passenger from using a passport or other device so you can't even say it's going to prevent foreigners or similar from hijacking a plane.

License plates aren't a "safety issue" either. Fake plates exist and even if they didn't or license plates weren't required cops can still pull over and arrest drivers.

Drivers licenses are also tools of tyrants. Dangerous driving and most serious accidents are a consequence of bad choices, not incapable drivers.

A: it sparked joy for someone, you know. We shouldn't rush to judgment on whether it sparks joy. It might be passively sparking a joy that would not be understood until it's gone and the joy deficit is revealed.

I always get a huge kick out of communists citing "Paradox of Tolerance", because that's a footnote in a book which spends like 80% of its time just absolutely railing on communists.

So basically if they'd read it, they'd know well enough not to cite it.
