Went to a business connections thing talking about bringing high schoolers into the work force with high skilled jobs, training them because the old guard is aging out. There have even been legislation changes (with more in the works) to make sure it is easier to do. Kids can basically spend half their schooling in trades while getting paid for it, and the community directly benefits from it too. Pretty cool stuff and it was good to see a bunch of likeminded people trying to make sure our future is a good one. Good to have a white pill every now and then.
Reposting this post I made about Discord, given that now they're rolling out age verification (but toned it down so most people won't get caught in the dragnet in theory):

Discord is not a chat app. Outsiders in the FOSS sphere think it is, but it's just the modern internet in one app like how AOL was back in the day, or China's "everything apps".
And people wonder why they don't get a follow up in response to a complaint when supplied with a simple easy to understand explanation as to why things are the way they are (ie policy regarding sticking to a forum topic basically and not allowing other political crap, and humorously it's not even like it was something moderators disagreed with, but keeping things pleasant regardless of political position, etc, not to mention resources required to deal with it, understand the nuances of particular groups, or really political factions that associate with 'defending' certain group, that is to say certain political factions think they're 'defending' me being part of a certain class I wouldn't agree with, etc):
"This is a fallacy of reasoning that we are all unique snowflakes and that there are no patterns or categories to be found in humans. You evoke this fallacy because subconsciously you intuit that you yourself may well be part of some category that you might prefer not to recognize. There are bigots and centrist neoliberal allies and collaborators of bigots in rural New York and urban New York and San Francisco and on every continent, and you all subscribe to more or less the same trite rote rationalization, with little variation."
I'd agree that we're not all unique snowflakes, but introducing drama which is off topic to a forum is a time consuming waste of resources for whoever is suppose to moderate it if that is the idea. A small project with millions of users doesn't necessarily have the people or resources to deal with it. It's one thing when you can bring on an associate coordinator or a 'cultural specialist' who understands the nuances... but at the end of the day things are the way they are and it's not the fault of the developers.
@Rom13AncapHypoc I think the reason Discord is so popular now too is it's the last place people act "however" they want because they have an illusion of privacy there, if solely because it's not indexed. That and on the normieweb there's the merited fear that if you make someone somewhere mad they're going to put your info into some osint site to find emails from a 10 year old breach of a gaming forum or write a Google Doc.
If any of y'all have deeper knowledge of how #Mastodon, #Rebased, #Soapbox, and #BirdMakeup work, I would appreciate having another eyeball take a look at this. #Gemini (the #AI I asked about this) is telling me that certain forks and versions of #Pleroma are stricter when it comes to loading #ActivityPub content than #Mastodon.
Working on both #Mastodon and #Rebased:

Not working on #Rebased but working on #Mastodon:

I just might've found a helpful use case for #AI lol. Asking #Gemini about why some #BirdMakeup posts load on both #Mastodon and #Rebased, and some only load on #Mastodon.
I am working, so I don't exactly have the bandwidth to verify everything, but it's essentially saying that, in this instance, at least, #Rebased rejected a post because it missed a share field, and its tag field was completely empty.
