SquareEnix plans to delist the current Final Fantasy VII from Steam as they intend to sell a newer version (sauce: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/39140/view/514... ) . Once the new version comes out, the old one will no longer be available for purchase. Save games from the old one are incompatible with the new version. No word yet on if mods from the old one will work on the new one.

If you want to play the old one, it'd be good to pick it up now. Once the new version launches, the old one will be titled "Final Fantasy VII 2013" and remain available for download, but not for purchase.

If you want to play the classic with mod support, you might want to nab a copy while you still can. The current one is selling for about $5, and inmo that's a very good deal for a game as good as FFVII. I know very little about this most recent guy who got shot, but I'm going to guess he was a total moron or the whole thing was staged/fake. In either case, the outrage will get "both sides" to stand against their own interests in favor of more government power.
