So this 'loophole' lets banks charge whatever they want to merchants when it comes to credit/debit card fees, but ultimately it's something that increases the prices you pay every time you swipe your card, but the real problem isn't what they charge or can charge via this loophole, but the government's fixing of the market through regulation that artificially restricts competition in the market place:

"Now, big banks are looking on with envy because owning a network can mean exemption from a federal law that caps debit-card fees. Those fees collectively amount to billions of dollars each year across the industry, but banks have long complained the government-defined cap limits their ability to offer customers debit-card rewards and other services. Some have been exploring a small deal that could upend the rules, though they are worried about political backlash if they try."

The left hates technical solutions to economic problems, and the right is equally as bad even if in slightly different ways (it's not like they tried to end regulation of the financial industry that inhibits competition).

Point being we have a ton of perfectly acceptable solutions to high fees via cryptos, but regulators have cracked down on companies supporting cryptocurrencies like Monero making it more difficult for merchants to offer solid alternatives.

It gets worse though because the intermediaries that merchants use to take cryptocurrencies are being pressured not only into abandoning support for privacy friendly cryptos like Monero, but they're also being forced into doing absurd "know your customer" crap of downstream customers. They're taking people's crypto and refusing refunds b/c they 'fail' some "KYC" test. It's not just crypto, but prepaid cards too.

The problem with the principle of "Separation of Church and State" is that it's the opposite of neutral: It's biased against Christians.

A better principle would be "Separation of Church or Synagogue or Mosque and State." Or even "religion and State."

In other words, you'd better have an empirical, objective rational reason for laws and/or regulations that do not depend solely on the doctrine of any particular religion.

🪙 Sound Money Could Break the Fed’s Grip

States are creating a path to kill fiat
Not with Congress, but with coins

Kill the taxes
Legalize gold and silver
Use it like cash

That’s how you reverse Gresham’s Law
And make fiat irrelevant 👇

@sun @pwm It turns out that if you stop watching the news and you discard everything ever said by some rich kid on Youtube, your opinion on this completely reverses.

I don't care about the death of physical games. Physical games never have and never will equal preservation. Preservation is having downloaded copies of anything and everything being accessible, regardless of legality. If anything, physical games are wasteful and promote wasteful spending by collectors who will never play their games.

Yes, I agree that it is a loss for consumers. That said, the AAA games industry has been GARBAGE for so long that I just can't bring myself to care anymore. The best games always have been and always will be those incredible indie darlings and AA experiences that haven't been known to get guaranteed physical releases at any point in history.

Additionally, maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I can play Quake and Tetris for the rest of my life and nobody can take those away from me. If people really care about making games live forever (relatively speaking), they should realize that the only games that can do this are FOSS games. We need more _good_ FOSS games, as they are the true final frontier of gaming.

Mini-PCs are so underrated. They're so much better than those crappy all-in-one PCs as they are much more repairable and can even be mounted to monitors to serve the same function. Plus, they're perfect for home servers or emulation boxes.

Also, it's just nice not to be doing 100% of my computing on laptops.

@kirch@tilde.zone I am not very politically neutral. But I do disagree with this statement.

I am not a fan of "You're either with us or you're against us" type arguments. They only fuel the culture war even more and increase the amount of segregation in our society.

It is interesting, there is an official Roller Coaster Tycoon scenario where you build the park at Ayer's Rock in Australia. This is apparently such a sacred site to the aboriginals that they don't even let you climb on it anymore, which I think is very stupid. I'm glad we can desecrate it within the game at least. Thank you friends.

Notification sent to me:

"mastodon.online reported "

.. some Russian propaganda shit...

Seriously- the hypocrisy of reporting people is getting old. It's like you insist on bringing the negatives of Twitter and other platforms to Mastodon. I get 'reporting' content to one degree or another when it comes to content that could get an instance shut down (maybe even spam), but even that is often only for those hosting in extremist regions like Europe, China, and the Middle East. Better solution: Stop hosting your shit there.

We believe in freedom of speech here and don't censor minority opinions on this instance including ones we don't like or agree with nor propaganda from political adversaries including the "left", the "right", and others except possibly where it may be something that is illegal and would threaten the instance's existence.

I realize 98% of the population can't think for themselves, but come on. This is just getting old. If you can't be an adult ... I don't know what to tell you. Go back to your echo chamber and just block our instance I guess.

The reason why I am so critical about the Star Fox 64 and Ocarina of Time remakes on the Switch 2 is because I feel like N64 nostalgia hit it's peak almost a decade ago (just from people talking about it on YT among other places). It feels like Nintendo is jumping in on the bandwagon way too late, and they already done it once on the 3DS anyway.

It seems like more people are nostalgic for the GameCube, GBA, Wii, and DS right now. As much as people don't want to admit it, it's true. The GC and Wii Zelda's have already been ported to recent consoles, and I don't see them remaking Minish Cap as Capcom was also involved, but maybe it's an opportunity to remake Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks and make them less shit.
