Interesting question, but since I do not plan on repaiting my steam decks on mass, I don't realy care.

On the other hand, the ability to fix my things myself is truly important.

To come back to your analogy, if buying a sserialized car means, that heated seats or remote locks will be locked behind a monthly pay, while custom car will have heaters breaking a few rules, capable of heating up the car even in Russia, then I will obviously preffer the custom one.

Locked OS of game consoles is a tool to lock away multiplayer. Something, that should never have been legal in the first place.

I do agree, but only to a point.
Freedom is in the IT world highly dictated by the abilities of the user.
I sometimes do have to scratch my head seing, that people do not even understand, that they can install an adblock on their phone. But to say, that consoles are free just because it is possible to install a different OS on them seems to me like a huge stretch to be honest.

I like Skyrim for the environment.

The XP system is a complete trash though, and the worldbuilding of sidequests is incompatible with the main characters powerfantasy implied by main and guild questlines.
