I am sorry, but I just don't see it.
Cutscenes were in games were before half life, and shooting/explaration too. It doesn't seem like a combination, that allows for a new depth, just for a more currated experience.

If you formed the argument about immersion itself as a feature, then sure. I could see half life being a bit more immersive then doom. But I still don't see it as defining of anything.

If something, I would gave to compare Half life to AVP2, with 3 multiplayer compatible yet still different playstyles, all included in a single game.

I might be really missing your point there, since it seems like a prime example of the negative to me.

When I think about all the top 10 games lists, most of them are focused either on the cultural impact or on the story/sold units.

But does that really define gaming? When I think of gaming as a separate art form, it is defined mostly by emerging gameplay and the depth of functions used to provide your experience.

So, that would make the list look something like:
Factorio
X4: Foundations
.
.

So, what games can you think of, that provide a true deep gaming experience? And is there a good word, that would describe this kind of games? Because I really think, that I am mising the vocabulary to even talk about this topic.

While masking on the whole gets easier with age, the absolute slog that is smalltalk is only getting more painful with each repetition.

I am 25yo. Before age of 6, all conversations were pre-analitical brain. ¨But ever since then, you had to have the same exact conversation about what? 20 times a day?

I literally cannot even think of talking to my mom about anything, since I know, she will literally just be returning a rating from "that's good" to a bad rating of "you'll be fine".

That's not a conversation. SHE'S A LITERAL NPC with such a limited number of lines, I can just hard code it in 10 minutes.

@tomie You didn't just miss the point, you missed the entire volume.

Would you rate "eat more vegetables" as a more or less useless advice, then "just go outside"?

Because "go outside" is wrong on such an obvious level, only a normie could say it outloud.

But, you cannot explain with words, how bad idea it is to kill your diet with empty volume. Even if you don't give up immediately when hearing it, you will eventually have a bad day. And imagine combining the usual bad mood, with your stomack screaming for anything alse then soaked fibers, AND not remembering what "happy stomack" feels like anymere.

Nah. That 1 dirty food per day truly keeps you sane.

It seems to me, that 95% of all fandom-crushing events are based on Authors bein incapable of understanding the concept of "rare".

Avatar: The peak of abilities that only ,1% of people are capable of achieving: new forms of bending.
Aang is literally a god in a childs body etc. So, in Korra, they turned avatar into a slight boost, and new bending forms into a 9-5.

But Avatar is just the obvious example. I have seen so many Star Wars fans not being able to understand the ridiculous powerlevel an average Jedi actually has. Or, just the fact, that they are rare as fuck. Yes, there were thousands of them, but on a GALACTIC SCALE.

People will unironically say, that I have a problem with attention spam. Yet, when I was traveling on place, I was looking out of the window for 2 hours wothout blinking, having the best time of my life.

How can people possibly ever get bored of that? Especially, if the flaps are visible too :D
