Imagine being so fat and slow that children can just replace your groceries under your nose, and there's nothing you can do about it.

@Awoo it used to be somewhere between a 1 or 2 but after my wreck and subsequent brain damage it's now a 5. However, I can still describe everything as if I were seeing it.

The best way I can describe it is all the data is still there, just the rendering engine is broken.

Sort of like how a computer still knows the geometry of everything, what colour things are, how the physics interacts with things, the locations and orientations of everything, etc. in a video game even if it's not actually being rendered or you just have the screen turned off.

In a sense it's like my perspective has changed from being an observer to the computer actually running the simulation.

I've noticed it has been gradually changing my perspective on a lot of things. I'm gradually becoming more analytical. I care less about how a situation looks and more about the actual data so if a situation "looks" promising or like it's going in the right direction but the actual numbers say otherwise, the numbers "paint" a much more "vivid" "picture" to me now.

I guess you could say since I'm no longer an observer in my own mind and now the actual machine running my mind I've broken free of the matrix. It's also causing me to be much less susceptible to propaganda.

Yes, the reviewer does confirm the latency issues. Basically, while DLSS3 gives better fps than DLSS2 or native, it increases latency close to native resolution. Basically you'll be playing at 120fps, but feel like you're playing at 60fps (assuming you have 60 fps native).

>I do think the 30 to 60 fps interpolation is passable though.
Without the tech in hand, it will be impossible for me to tell if I could find it passable or not. Online video would just blur out all the fine artifacts that something like this would put out.
Going by the bigger glitches this reviewer presents, I simply do not have any confidence in this tech. And I've seen too many Youtube interpolated "60fps [insert MCU movie here]" clips to know how weird and awkward interpolation can get.

The right man in the wrong game can make all the difference in the world. So wake up Mr. Freeman, wake up and smell that booty.

I find the discussions behind all of this... weird.
On one hand, I find it absurd that people are trying to say AI generated images aren't art. Of course they are, don't be daft.

But at the same time, I can't believe people feel so threaten by it, that they need to evangelize weird reasons to not support AI art.
It's AI, that's inherently finicky, smudgy, error prone etc. Anyone who cares about art won't consider it as an option in the first place, so fucking relax.

If anything, AI could be a tool for both artists and clients to create a draft and get a quick idea of what a picture could/should look like. Why couldn't a client come to the artist with an AI generated picture and say: "I want this, but actually good looking"? Or to be used to better convey what each party has in mind when talking about the art to be commissioned.

Update on Borderlands 3:

@condret
I think a better argument could be made that there should have been another tier of rarity, to separate the lesser legendaries from the ones that are viable end game. In which case the current drop rate for lesser legendaries is okish maybe. idk...

When I did my first playthrough of Borderlands 2, towards the end, I had on average 1 legendary, 1 blue, and everything else purple. Right now I'm on Eden-6 (don't know how far that is into the game), but for a while my gear consisted of mostly legendary, and now it is exclusively legendaries, and they don't feel weak for the area either.
In B2 I used to treasure purple items on my first playthrough, now I barely glance at anything not legendary.

Technically the video would be 2D, but I understand what you mean. And you're right. Being baked into the 3D engine is gonna give much better results than trying to apply algorithms after the frame has been completely build. It's why DLSS is much better than AMD's FSR (that you can apply to ANY game you want with a custom build of Wine/Proton under Linux).

But the underlying idea is still stupid. And going by what the reviewer found, you wouldn't want to enable this if you're under 60fps, cause you'll start seeing the artifacts. Rather it's something to use when you're already over 100fps.

Which is rather stupid and useless. Only people who are that desperate for max fps are gonna be competitive players, but they'll surely disable it cause they really can't afford ANY minor distortion.

> i just hope it doesn't give developers an excuse to stop optimizing their games
I think they're already on that road.

@Mr_NutterButter
They can sometimes have that quaint quality to them, where even if it's low res, you can tell the author put effort into it and it was made with all the love in the world. I can perfectly enjoy something like that too. An example of good pixel art that impressed me in quality and how well it was used, is TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge.

But there are few examples like this that I've come across.

A big issue I have with usage of pixel art in modern games, is that devs have a bad habit of mixing pixel art with modern and complex lighting or other effects. Like having a RTX Minecraft... pure heresy. Also, if your pixel art game demands anything more than an integrated GPU, you're doing something wrong.

@FutaFanatic @DailyBun
A lie is still a lie, and they should be investigated by FCC or whatever government agency is responsible for this.
If the standard of 4K gaming is applying a resize, then integrated graphics from years ago can do 4K gaming.

@FutaFanatic @DailyBun
P.S. Although I approve of previous DLSS as a resize algorithm, I completely disapprove of Nvidia presenting 1440p+DLSS as a way to do 4K gaming. It's simply not 4K gaming. It's just the best frame resize that you can apply to games.

@FutaFanatic @DailyBun
I didn't even look into what DLSS 3 did until now. It's hot garbage. It's frame interpolation (which is hot garbage even for video material) but worse, because it has to completely guess the interpolated frame instead of doing an average of 2 distinct frames. The guy does a good job at presenting the tech, but as usual, YouTube compression sucks ass, and you'll probably not be able to fully grasp how hot garbage this is unless you use DLSS 3 yourself.

Nvidia should have stopped at DLSS 2. Fake pixels is still dumb and stupid, but a smarter resize algorithm is still better than playing at lower resolutions and having your screen do the resize, or have the GPU use a biliniar resize.

I don't see how fake frames is better than lower fps, when botched frames can distract you, and take your attention away from what's happening in the foreground to something meaningless in the background.

@solidsanek
Purists will always exist. I can't even stand AI upscaling, let alone this new trend.

Far right is anyone who isn't to the left of Stalin.
More than normalizing pedophilia or murder, what the left has worked on has been normalizing communism.
