@vokainen099 denuvo usually gets removed because it is something that has to be paid for consistently. It's not a one time buy thing.

the fact that i still own and fit in my 7th grade gym clothes as a grown ass man feels criminal

@thicckarrie the left is sexy, especially in a retro kind of way. the right is just plain adorable.

strange people are convinced they are normal, and try to convince others they are normal, when they should just accept they are strange. doing that makes life a hell of a lot easier.

@BlinkRape the first time i tried running an instance it was using digital ocean. it went well enough, but idk i just didn't really have the need for it i guess. i originally was gonna have all my friends join it because they sounded like they were going to but then nobody did so it was just me and my brother who used it like once a week lol. i think i was paying like, $13/month or something along those lines. they seem pretty good though.

@Tony I see.
I also just noticed that the prices and charts I was looking at are for shared hosting, not a VPS. their VPS option is significantly more expensive. i don't think the shared server stuff works nearly as well for something that's not static.

what are you using for hosting?

@Tony i'm not as worried about storage if it's going to be unlimited anyway, i'm moreso worried about the number of connections needed for federation to work properly and quickly. like, i've heard having relays for instance can slow your instance to a crawl.

for those of you somewhat familiar with running fedi instances, i've been thinking about maybe one day deploying one using DreamHost. it would be maybe like 10 users max. but they have unlimited storage for $14/month and i feel like that's pretty good (or $8 for 50GB). i just am not sure if the server would actually work fast enough for a fediverse instance versus something like static hosting or if there is a better option out there (if they have a lax TOS, which is why i was looking into dreamhost).

still not sure if i'll ever do it, but it's something that's been in the back of my mind so i'm kinda curious.
