@matana that would be good if it were a metallic dragon perhaps but not a red dragon.

Also one of my players misread one of his features and he's usually good about that stuff so I took his word for it and that pretty much changed the whole fight. So now I'm gonna be pretty hellbent on checking everything my players are doing if it is not basic shit. Most of them aren't very good at interpreting the rules >.> which is why going to a different, more complicated RPG terrifies me xD

damn, my players shredder through an ancient white dragon tonight with 4 critical attacks.

it sucks because i want to have stuff that actually challenges them, but on the off chance that they roll a bunch of critical failures instead and just don't hit something, then they will get the floor wiped with them instead.

high level d&d is insanely volatile. i kind of feel like at a certain point, you should just stop giving your monsters (bosses in particular) HP values at all and just wait for a good moment to have them die.

they fight an ancient red dragon as the next boss, but what am i supposed to do in order to balance an encounter like that? if i increase anything on an ancient red and they don't hit it a few times in a round, then they'll get throttled. if i don't do anything, and they get 4 nat 20s again, then my dragon gets throttled.

@PraxisOfEvil yeah i don't really like how it says "suspected gang members" here. if they're not actually guilty they shouldn't be getting sent to what is likely a max sec (or as max sec as a third world country can be) prison full of literal gang members.

turns out, about 5% of the people arrested because they were suspected to be gang members were totally innocent. i'd be willing to bet there are more innocent people in there too, as the place is a shit hole country so they probably have shit hole law enforcement and judiciaries.

this isn't exactly the right way to go about cleaning the streets because you end up removing actually innocent people's rights in the process (much worse than something like stop and frisk).
