Man, I really can't wait until I can make another game that actually has greenery in it xD making a game that takes place during a plague where all the plants are dead/dying made mapping pretty damn hard. Well, hard to make it look pretty. That's why I liked making the snowy maps so much... they still have evergreens.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
LMAO NO WAY AFTER SHE JUMPED OFF IT GAVE THE SUICIDE WARNING AGAIN!!! THIRD TIME!!
Also, the game is soft-looping now. Very PT-esque. Modern day Silent Hill really is just a comical caricature of everything that recent horror game phenomena did right, huh?
Silent Hill: The Short Message
Waaahhhh I don't have enough social media followers, and the ones I do have keep asking me to post sexy pics! WTF am I supposed to do?? Jump off this fucking building? My friend did it and she's got tons of followers now!
How to build an unlikable protagonist 101. James, despite killing his wife, is still way more likable than this cringelord.
There is actually a correct way to do this, but this is not it bro. This is soooo not it.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
This is a more minor nitpick I suppose but it plays right in to the cellphone thing anyway. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY actually uses "ur" instead of "you're" (or even "your") these days. Contemporary my ass. You can tell this is some real "hello, my fellow kids" writing. We said "ur" back in the day because texting on a dumb phone with the numpad was ass and you'd shorten whatever you could. Now you can type "you're" by putting your finger on the screen and dragging it twice. Also, what's with the lack of correct pronunciation? We have autocorrect now. cant, dont, id, thats... all of it would be corrected if they were really using a smartphone here.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
There are these automated text message scenes that happen randomly in the middle of gameplay too. They said they wanted to be contemporary or some shit and that's why they're doing it. Did it ever strike anyone that what's contemporary is fuckin' lame? Stopping everything you're doing for a JPEG of a phone to come up with a pre-baked text message scene is so much worse than even having a character call you... at least you can still walk around in that case. Shattered Memories even did that astonishingly well since it used the Wiimote's speaker. This is just boring as hell and the rate of the texts coming and going is also super unrealistic lol.
@caekislove @berkberkman i never watched it but it always seemed really fucking cheesy to me. exactly like this new silent hill shit.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
Hmmmmmm.... subtle. Angela in SH2 carries that knife around with her and it is clear that she probably harms herself, but it is never explicitly mentioned like this and her scars are never shown because she wears a long sleeve shirt.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
There are live action cutscenes. What's the deal with these things?? I hate them every time I see them. Takes me out of the experience immediately. I can understand going for it if the idea is to be a little corny, like in the original Resident Evil, but when games are trying to use it for a serious effect it just doesn't do anything for me man. Feels way too detached from the rest of the game.
gamedev
@xianc78 OK good lol
@LukeAlmighty he says "no cap" 😭
gamedev
@xianc78 when are you gonna add the crypto mining
@LukeAlmighty catwoman is hot
@LukeAlmighty @Nesano also, i just want to say that the game being bad or super janky or whatever doesn't mean you can't enjoy it. i really enjoyed a modded playthrough i did that was survival focused where i didn't do any fast travel and wasn't even a dragonborn. stayed away from the main story completely. put 50-60 hours into it for the most time i've ever played one skyrim playthrough. i only stopped because i felt like my character's story arc was completed and i was going hard on the roleplay, i'm sure i could have kept playing for a lot longer if i wanted to. still don't think it's anywhere close to the greatest game of all time or something though, like a lot of people say.
heck, it's #81 on my top 100 games list.
@LukeAlmighty @Nesano what do you mean by "the game's ecosystem?" do you mean mods? because if that's the case then every single time they update it, including to add paid mods, it breaks that ecosystem as well and people have to scramble to get it working again.
@LukeAlmighty yeah any time i see anyone parading around the suicide hotline i know they aren't genuine.
the best thing to do, if they wanted to put a warning here, would be this:
"this game contains sensitive subjects that some people may find distressing."
that's it. that's all you need to say. if you feel like you're someone in that camp, maybe you can then go online to look for more information to see if playing the game will make you bleed from your eyesockets with hyper realistic blood or something.
@LukeAlmighty @Nesano bro i'm not saying it is a horrid game like starfield is. i'm saying they put out a heavily flawed game that could only be salvaged with mods, barely fixed any of it, and then kept re-releasing it over and over again without really fixing any of the core issues and people just kept buying it more and more, and that led to what qualities they did have as a game studio becoming diminished, which led to something like starfield coming out.
Silent Hill: The Short Message
I always forget CW is a thing lol, really helps keep the local timeline organized better xD I need to use it more when I post a shit ton of stuff.
Anyway, you get the content warning AGAIN when you start a new game lol.
