@ChristiJunior it's like if you went back to 2010 and asked people if Daft Punk or Skrillex was better. Daft Punk wouldn't win that vote, despite just releasing one of the best soundtracks of all time, just because Skrillex was the new/popular thing. You ask that question now and people will say Daft Punk. Like a true vampire, Remilia will probably outlive us all.
@applejack @Mr_NutterButter he explained that the ring pulled off of the pin because it was too rusted for the pin to come out. But, if it weren't for the rust, that would have been quite the stream ending.
@ChristiJunior I don't think that's an upset tbh. Pretty predictable that fedi would vote for the basic wolf girl from a mobile gacha game. Remilia is too strong and has too much of a legacy to win in match ups like this, which sounds like some backwards logic but it makes sense. It's the same reason why Zelda just didn't make it in the last tournament.
game dev
just testing out segmented walls. i can make them look prettier, they actually just look segmented because it helps me keep track of them while developing.
i currently like this approach of just removing the lower wall whenever a player is in a room where it would obstruct their view too much. they can only turn the camera about 50 degrees each way, so they'll never actually be able to see the bottom wall of a room anyway.
as much as i want to give players free control over the camera, rpg architect's camera doesn't have collision. because of that, it'll clip into walls. i don't want the player to have to deal with manually zooming in to see specific spots.
i was toying around with fixed camera angles too and i might use that for some key scenes. it's good to know it's an option but i'd also have to remove walls in some instances doing that anyway.
@ZRDR_DelRio @susie limitations breed creativity. less limitation = less creativity. less style. less reliance on good game design.
@susie i'd agree for a lot of devs, but this is naughty dog at the absolute top of their game we're talking about. they were so damn meticulous about everything this game. joel is about the same age as tess and looks pretty much his age (which they still pushed further in the remake anyway). the person who originally designed these characters surely had the intention of doing it this way.
and that's part of the problem. for the remake, they redesigned all the characters. new art director, as far as i'm aware. it really just reeks of "we did your job better" mentality and is disrespectful to the vision of the original game. not just druckmann's vision which is apparently not what tons of players believed while playing the game, but the entire team's vision. each moving part.
on top of that, the character no longer looks unique. she loses all, well, character... just blends in. in the push for heavier "realism" in games, so much has been lost. if i saw that picture of her without the logo plastered on top i would never guess that it was tess. i wouldn't even be able to tell you it was last of us related because it just looks exactly like everything else does. i guess "ugly" isn't exactly the right word for it, but just bland? uninspired?
maybe they could have aged her up a little bit but at least kept her same general look. gone with a more "in-between" situation. it's just sort of character assassination as well as shitting on the legacy of the game and the work the old devs did.
nobody got it worse than sarah though. holy shit. she looks so much worse, like bordering on uncanny valley looking. criticize that though and you have people jumping down your throat asking you why you want a child character to look good in a video game.
it's like yes, on paper, it looks theoretically "better." better skin textures, higher quality mesh with more bones for animations, new lighting techniques that respect materials more, etc and whatever the fuck. it just looks WEIRD though. and it loses the quality that the original game had of looking almost hyper-realistic in a video-gamey way that almost sold the illusion to you, but now since they've pushed for way more "realism-accurate" graphics it just looks strange and uncanny.
i think the original game's graphics are just going to age a lot better because they still had style to them. the artists realized that. new shit has no style.
Details about the beta test for God's Disdain which is coming soon!
Please reply to this post or send a DM after reading if you are interested in beta testing the game! If you have any questions, also feel free to ask.
The game will be free, so I can't promise any extra goodies or what have you, but your chosen name will at least make it in the credits if you ever submit feedback or bug reports.
The desired feedback will be any bug reports as well as session journals describing how your play session went. You don't have to do both, as long as there is feedback happening. What won't be accepted much are feature requests, as the game is considered feature-full at this point. If it's something that's braindead easy that I just forgot to add or whatever, I won't mind adding things like that into the game (for example, arrows on the quest log menu).
A Steam account will be required, as will a copy of Windows (8-11). I will likely not be maintaining a version of the game for Linux and it doesn't work well on Steam Deck without tweaking some things that break other things. However, if you are unable or unwilling to use anything else, I can at least try to provide an unofficial Linux build that can be updated by the end user manually. I just can't promise that any Linux-specific bugs will be fixed. Later down the line, when the game is released and I'm sure it is in a stable condition, I will look into porting it to Linux officially.
Creating content relating to the game will be allowed as long as you include a disclaimer that it is a beta as well as what version of the beta you are currently playing.
ICYMI, here is the reveal trailer for the game so you know a bit more what you're getting yourself into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=raDv4aYw-x0
@susie tess is supposed to be in her 40s in the game, but like why go through the effort of redesigning the entire character? as if the original designers didn't know she was that old or something? do they think you just immediately become ugly when you're 40 or something? it might be millennials who are trying to cope with aging or some shit.
