This sounds a little ridiculous, but I might just keep my Deezer sub going so I can continue to download Hi-Fi music from it as well as getting notifications for bands putting out new music, and using their discovery feed. I just won't listen to the music through the app anymore because it is kinda crap and there are all these issues with licensing and favorites. that won't matter if it's all local though and i'm cool continuing to pay if it means i still have some of the actually nice features.
for anyone curious, here's the app i'm using to download my entire deezer library. it has a lot of other really cool functions too, wish i would have found it sooner.
@Mr_NutterButter i think most people do this. even if they don't realize they are doing it. they'll buy merch, they'll tell their friends about it who will then maybe buy the albums or more merch, and then they'll go to their shows. for the most part, it's not the musicians that care about the piracy, it's the labels, because they stand to lose the most.
@Mr_NutterButter @Forestofenchantment i remember, i went to a concert in 2013 that was Of Mice and Men and A Day To Remember. I had never heard of the former, was just going for the latter. However, they fucking blew me away and were much better than ADTR which i went to see. the lead vocalist at the time, austin carlile, said they had just released a new album and that he didn't care how people listened to it. he literally said "go and pirate that shit!!"
so, i did. and holy fuck it was amazing. went to the store and bought it as soon as i could and i ended up seeing them again later at warped tour and buying another album there. i tried to go see them again but it was right when austin's voice was getting really fucked up and they had to cancel the show. but yeah, now they're one of my favorite bands of all time. so that moment really spoke to me.
@Mr_NutterButter i do have a decent amount of physical albums and downloaded tracks, but yeah i'm unfortunately gonna have to go back to piracy. though, i'm not too worried about that from an ethical standpoint because instead of giving artists .0001 cents and the rest of it to the shitty labels and software, i'm giving nothing to anyone lmao.
even as a musician myself, it's way more important to me that people enjoy the music than purchasing it. i kind of have taken this same philosophy on game development as well. i want people to play my shit and listen to my shit, as many as possible, i don't really care how they decide to do that.
@Forestofenchantment all artists prefer people to buy their releases, but the fact of the matter is that i'm not made of money. i'll buy albums that i REALLY like, and that's about it. the way that most people have consumed music ever since the cassette tape (and maybe earlier?) has been piracy lol. or just listening to the radio and whatever comes on, comes on. great artists will recognize that and just want as many people to hear their music as possible, since the majority of their sales are from playing shows and merch (which does include physical music sales). the only way to get people to buy that stuff though is to make sure they hear the music in the first place, and in that regard, streaming services are extremely beneficial. they serve pretty much the same purpose that limewire did.
ahahaha, checking out their subreddit it looks like everyone else is having this issue too, lmao this is so fucking dumb
Okay so the music library thing is even dumber than I thought. It seems that some albums are only on mobile and some are only on desktop, but those even differ sometimes between the app client and the website one. WTF is going on here?
Man, I like Deezer because it let me have my streaming library and then upload my own MP3s to it for things that didn't exist on the platform. This is just ridiculous though, I've had weird issues with it before but this takes the cake. I'm not going to go through and favorite 3 different versions of songs just so I'll have them everywhere. I'd rather download all my music manually. What a joke.
It's going to take a while to go back to using local music but I know there are programs that will download stuff from Deezer. It is kind of going to suck to start needing to manually download stuff instead of searching for it too... that convenience of streaming apps is nothing to scoff at. When it doesn't play the music I want it to play, though, what's the point you know?

Ending and credits now have a background too. I was inspired by early fantasy RPGs like Final Fantasy 1-7 and the first two Ys games which featured a space background, despite none of those games (except FF4) taking place in space.
Space backgrounds are often associated with deep philosophical thought or the meaning of existence. Or maybe the protagonist is transferred to another world after starring into the mirror. I don't know. I just felt like the ending and credits screen needs a background too.

Boss now only appears after the player is out of the doorway and the trap-door closes. This prevents the player from leaving before the shutting of the trap-door.
