Doesn't really surprise me. Version control became popular during the rise of open-source and open-source is largely unheard of in Japan.

People these days think that torrenting is "1337 h4x0r shit" even though it is easier than ever. Popcorn Time is an easy to use program that allows you to watch movies and TV shows off the BitTorrent network and has a nice Netflix and Hulu style interface.
