@takao @feld @coolboymew I have listened to the OST of that game. I think it potentially has the best music of the original series, but the horrible soundfont is a huge deal breaker.

@coolboymew @feld @takao I had to play the first one with a walkthrough because of the bullshit 3D dungeons. I didn't have the patience to create maps. Not to mention the horrible enemy encounter rate in that game. But PSI is probably the only 8-bit RPG I truly liked. PSII was too slow and clunky for me and PSIV is probably my favorite JRPG of all time (never played PSIII).

@coolboymew @feld @takao If you think that's bad, try the pseudo-3D dungeons in the first game.

@Mr_NutterButter Yeah, the social benefits were there. I found it strange that it was more socially unacceptable to beat up a girl than to beat up a boy even out of self-defense. Hell, it was more acceptable for a girl to kick you in the balls than to beat up a girl. But that's because I later learned that men are in fact physically stronger than women, but TV (they were even trying to push the ideas of genders being equal back then) was trying to tell me otherwise.

I also noticed that girls had less responsibilities. Men were expected to hold the door open, men were expected to do outside chores, men were drafted into the military, etc. When I heard "be a gentlemen", all I heard was "do all the work so the ladies don't have to". It just always irked me that men had to do all this grunt work while women got to spend more time on hobbies, at least in my eyes.

@ArdanianRight I actually did wanted to become a girl when I was little only because they get to cut in line ("ladies first") and they usually get their own bedrooms while the boys have to share. I got over it.

@ArdanianRight @ChristiJunior@neckbeard.xyz I'm still glad that I got that game for my brother though. He's never actually played a Zelda game and I didn't want him to be spoiled by BoTW and immediately get turned off at other games in the series.

@rasterman @ChristiJunior@neckbeard.xyz It really shows what Nintendo could do instead of just selling emulated ROMs. The gigaleak showed that Nintendo does preserve source code and SM64 was programmed in C (a portable language) so they really don't have an excuse. And if people don't like it, they can always turn it off in a settings menu.

But the Brawl models look kind of jarring. For one, they're stilling using the original animations which gives Mario a hunch, and being Brawl, Mario has that constant angry look on his face. There's also a mod that uses models that resemble the ones used as prerenders in promotional material, but I was never a fan of those prerendered models.

@rasterman @ChristiJunior@neckbeard.xyz Nintendo always uses emulators for ports. The only difference with 3D All Stars is that they used Lua scripts to clean up textures and translate the game's text without editing the ROM itself.

And if you think the native port is impressive check out the mods that have been made with the PC port. One of them replaces the N64 models with models from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
