I think merely having an account on any Fedi instance that is freeze peach is already cancel worthy even if most of us here aren't /pol/-tards because people these days immediately assume "free speech community" means "far-right echo-chamber".
You used to be able to shill your indie game on 4chan without being cancelled. Granted, it was a few years before the whole culture war we're experiencing now, but 4chan was still thought of as an awful place by the mainstream at the time. Had the culture war and cancel culture existed at the time, we would probably never see games like Minecraft rise to the success they have now.
Hell, I remember people actively shilling their games on 8chan back in 2015. I think even Undertale creator, Toby Fox was active on there. And while there still is a game dev community on the various 8chan bunkers, advertising your game on any of them would probably be a death sentence now. THQ Nordic was lucky to have their AMA before Christchurch happened. Otherwise, God knows what would've happened to them.

>the eventual "gold edition" of the game with DLC will be paid and that will be a different story
It would be nice if you had a limited physical edition of the game. I wish CafePress still had the option to sell custom CDs because you could make special physical versions of your game. I'm not aware of any services that currently do that (outside of LRG, but good luck trying to strike a deal with them), but having a physical edition of your game would be really cool.
You could also burn them yourself and label them with a custom labeler and sell them at conventions/events (albeit in limit quantities, of course). On Windows, all you need to do is at an autoplay.ini file at the root of the disc and the game, launcher, or installer will run automatically when the disc is inserted, just like how all the PC games used to work before digital distribution. I don't know if Linux has anything similar to that though.

I realize that the current respawning system (appearing in the same x-coordinate where you died) isn't going to work with my current level design, so now I'm making a checkpoint system instead.
The red bar with the blue stripe (doesn't actually show up in-game) indicates a checkpoint. The blue stripe indicates where the player will re-spawn while you only need to reach the red part to reach the checkpoint.
@beardalaxy @PhenomX6 @ryo You should also host it on your website for those who don't trust either Steam or itch.
@lanodan It was most likely Comcast because the only other ISP available in my area is way too unsuitable for setting up a home server.
I guess I'm not self-hosting anytime soon.
@lanodan I figured out where a friend lived that way because he was hosting a website on his home server back in high school. I remember ipaddress.com gave me his full address.
@lanodan Doesn't that expose your IP address and therefore your actual location to everyone, though?
@hj ENOUGH WITH THIS SHITTY MEME!!!
@PhenomX6 @ryo I'm afraid that they might pull a Twitch and start enforcing off-site conduct (if they haven't already). I can see gamedevs here on fedi (non SJW-side) or /agdg/ getting their games removed just for being on those communities if not also because of the opinions espoused by those gamedevs.
I find it ironic because I remember the early days of itch.io, they said they will allow anything that didn't contain illegal content. They even supported crypto at one point, but I don't know if they do anymore. But now it just seems to fallen to the cancer of the modern indie game community.
