@Zealist @hachi @Omega_Variant @zombiefinatic They route your internet traffic to a remote server, but unlike a standard proxy, it is all encrypted, so your network or ISP won't be able to see your traffic.
However, the VPN provider can still log your traffic. Some claim that they don't but it is impossible to prove either way.
They are useful for bypassing IP or region blocks or blocks set by your network.
Tor (which is more like a chain of VPNs) is a more secure option but it is much slower.
@LukeAlmighty @beardalaxy They are cheap gifts for those who want to give someone something but don't know what. All they know is that they are a fan of X, so why not give them an X figurine?
Introducing my hobby coding project since xmas:
Mastotron!
It's a different interface to Mastodon, replacing the mindless "feed" of most social media with a network map of conversations and recent and popular posts.
👉 You can download it here: https://github.com/quadrismegistus/mastotron 🖖
There's easy, double-click installation for Mac and Linux; Windows is a bit trickier for now.
This is b new, so bound to be bugs. But if you can, give it a whirl, and let me know if it works and what you'd like to see!
@ryo Governments won't leave Twitter because Big Tech is a government creation.
@ryo Or bring back private servers.
The WEF has coined "critical ignoring", meaning learning to ignore what they don't want you to know.

@PhenomX6 @meso @Zerglingman @Silly_CB Going full-freetard when it comes to gaming is pretty stupid though. There is nothing harmful about decades old DOS games or NES ROMs, no matter how much the FSF claims they are also unethical.
Also, the FSF still considers scripts (which games often use for events, AI, etc) as software, so even playing otherwise proprietary games with libre replacement engines, or games where the data is still proprietary (assuming the data has scripts) are still considered unethical according to the FSF. Scripts shouldn't be a problem because they are usually sandboxed and only work within the context of the game, but the FSF believes that all proprietary software is unethical, so your options are pretty limited.
@theredcaps First off, please don’t send me DMs. See my bio for more info.
Second of all, GoToSocial doesn’t support Soapbox on purpose because the author disagrees with my opinions: https://github.com/superseriousbusiness/gotosocial/issues/382
Unless you agree with every single political opinion of its author, I suggest avoiding GoToSocial.
