Feel-good story of the day: Truck owner, after finding his truck was stolen, happens upon it in an adjacent lot with the thieves still in it. The owner pulls gun and tells them to take a seat on the ground (citizen's arrest, and the article implies but doesn't outright say he called the cops to take them off his hands and file charges).

Two minutes later, thief pulls gun and shoots the truck owner. Truck owner returns fire and kills thief and now attempted murderer, rendering the thief dead.

No charges filed on truck owner.

I'm going to try doing a little experiment with the tileset for my game, or in other words, the environmental graphics. Right now I'm just using the stock RPG Maker graphics for them, and that means if people see the game they'll immediately know it's RPG Maker. I wanted to get something more unique going, but I was laser focused on the idea of it being completely original and I knew I didn't have money for that kind of thing, so I skipped over the tilesets.

I wouldn't be able to drop in another paid tileset, because unfortunately it wouldn't be formatted the same way and I'd definitely be missing pieces that I need for all the current maps in the game.

However, watching some RPG Maker videos today, I actually got a great idea. I'm going to do a little bit of snooping around to see if I can find a tileset that can be used in conjunction with the stock ones. I could recreate the stock tilesets to the best of my ability with those ones that I purchase, and then any gaps could be filled with the stock assets since they'll mesh together well enough.

We'll see what turns up! I will definitely have pictures ready to show you all if I think it looks good :)

can anyone help me remember the name of this game?

it was an old macintosh game, could have been elsewhere but that's where i played it.

it's just monochrome, i think. it's 2d and i think from a top-down perspective. it's a simple dungeon exploration game where you have to find keys to progress to the next area. i don't remember there being any sound but maybe we didn't have the right hardware for it.

it's definitely from before the year 2000, most likely from the late 80s or early 90s if i had to guess.

welcome to my schizo nightmare / innovative game design(?)

Running on a ghetto thinkpad special i5-4210M with many settings turned down to get it running at this speed. More optimizations possible, but also more features incoming. I'm not sure how many major performance gains I can make without disabling normal mapping/specular.
