@PurpCat If I were them, I would salvage the thing by adding a transparent prism or dome on top of the table so you could play pseudo-holographic games using the Pepper's Ghost illusion. The table is probably the only device big enough to project a full game that way.

Why is this a thing? Someone I know recently got one. Who wants to spend nearly $1000 on a device that just plays digital versions of board games?

The doomsday clock is the most stupid shit ever, how retarded do you have to be to buy into that

@cjd My theory is that there is a certain faction of the elites who hate the idea of a world government because it will destroy the war economy, which has been tried and true for ages now.

Interestingly, World Government did not rank as either a popular future prediction or an under-rated one.

I think most everybody has come to the conclusion that that shit ain't gonna happen and Rockefeller or whoever can pound sand.

This why you don't give people financial advice. No one can predict the future, and pretending like you can will get your friends rekt.

@BroDrillard @professionalbigot69 I struggle to think of real world problems that can't be done on 1/100th the compute available on the average laptop, aside from gay AI shit of course. ray tracing? completely optional

for HPC type stuff that is distributable, well we've had beowulf clusters for 30 years

>I think if someone is making a 2D game they should probably just stick to Godot though.

I think Love2D is a better choice as it is more lightweight. Sure it may lack conveniences like a level editor or pathfinding, but it's simple enough for a middle schooler to pickup as Lua is one of the easiest programming languages to learn. There is also Pygame which is basically the same thing, but for Python. I see kids programming with these tools all the time, so they are easy for anyone to pickup.

I don't think a full-blown engine is needed for writing 2D games. You just need a basic grasp on geometry and trigonometry in order to work with 2D.

My New Year's Resolution is to get this game done and maybe learn to draw (would like to have a game using either hand-drawn or vector art one day).

I think there are other things, but I can't think of them right now.

>Hopefully there will just be a return to games being .. well games, not tech demos with some shit story or god awful art drawn by a team of lesbians who probably can't even finish a visual novel.

Even if games stopped prioritizing graphics or physics, it still won't matter as long as developers keep relying on bloated engines. Just look at all the 2D indie games running on fucking Unity or Unreal when they can easily just use SDL instead.

The whole "buying a high-end gaming PC to play Minecraft" meme exists for a reason and it's because of incompetent devs.

There's not a lot of macOS because it breaks backwards comparability all the time. As long as there's not a system level copy protection on the CD, a ton of old XP games will still work today (although a lot do need patches, which some companies have done to get that long tail for old games on GoG/Steam).

I still have a 3080-Ti and don't see ever upgrading. Hell, the PS4 Pro hit that golden era of graphics that are more than good enough for most story-telling, puzzles and action. Sure Far Cry 6 might look way better on a 3080 but .. who the fuck cares, the game is shit and the characters all suck ass.

Games have to be fun. Fancy art is a nice touch, but the game still has to be .. a game. Red Dead 2 and Stardew Valley are on totally different levels tech wise, but they're both solid for being fun, interesting games.

Hopefully there will just be a return to games being .. well games, not tech demos with some shit story or god awful art drawn by a team of lesbians who probably can't even finish a visual novel.
