Since Baest is going to become unusable for some time while it's being migrated to Revolver, I'm taking this opportunity to step away from the fediverse for an indefinite amount of time to focus on other things. I want to write a book, learn new languages, make a game, learn animation and many other things which I've slowly worked on, specially as of last year, even though I have barely if ever posted about it. Eventually I will return once I have something to show for it and prove myself I haven't wasted my time. Regardless of that I've had a ball here. I will stop posting but I'll continue reading from time to time some of your accounts because this is the only reliable source of news about anime and games I trust lmao. Also if you post something tangentially related to my fetishes you can bet your ass I will read it

@djsumdog @deprecated_ii Didn't Van Allen end up on NASA's payroll at some point? You could make the case that he was forced to say that the Van Allen belts were safe. Either way, the thing about the Van Allen belts are that they're just that: belts. You could have a ship do a polar orbit and fly over the belts, but I don't think any of the Apollo missions (allegedly) did that.
But even discounting that, you do have to deal with solar flares on the moon, which do happen frequently, and NOAA records showed that there were at least 1400 solar flares during the 9 moon flights. The only way I think anyone could've done a moon mission was if they immediately went into a closed vehicle only to get out when they are inside a lunar cave.

@mischievoustomato @prettygood @tadano @pomstan @PurpCat @sapphire @djsumdog If someone really wants/needs to join a community, they will use whatever. Sure, some will complain, but they can suck it up. So if you want to use anything other than Discord for your project, you can.

Off the top of my head:
* OBS Studio
* Hyprland
* MonoGame
* SFML (though they also have a forum and IRC)
* Godot Engine (also has a forum)
* FreeSO (open-source re-implementation of The Sims Online)
There are plenty more. Though mostly, they are projects that just so happen to be open-source and the community doesn't really care about the FOSS movement.
@pomstan @PurpCat @djsumdog @mischievoustomato @tadano @sapphire @prettygood Occasionally he makes some good points, such as how so many FOSS projects are using Discord, but most of the time it's just him complaining about how "crypto is evil" or "there are too many right-wingers in the FOSS community".

god I hate how so many cool people leave the internet and it's obvious who and why it's the case too and it sucks
@beardalaxy @helldiverliberator I think that has more to do with the target demographic being kids and teenagers back then, and they really didn't care about economics. It was mostly parents who called out on their businesses practices, but it was mostly "why does my kid need a Super Nintendo he already has an NES."
