@noyoushutthefuckupdad @ergo @bajax If you only care about playing music, just get a digital voice recorder. They are basically the same thing as you can load MP3 files onto them and they even have playlist functionality, plus they are much more durable from my experience.

A new model of mp3 player that's Rockbox compatible? And it has real buttons, no shitty touchscreen? And it has a headphone jack, no bluetooth required? And it's under 100 bucks? I might get one of these and finally replace my multiple Sansa Clip Zips.

I saw a video of the progress in action. It looks like a creepypasta at the moment lmao

@djsumdog @theorytoe @sand @mikuchan I think the future is going to be AI filters (like the Studio Ghibli one) rather than text-to-image or text-to-video. Like I could see something like a program that converts concept art into spritesheets for a video game. It would probably work better because they would still require a significant degree of human input instead of just interpreting a text prompt.

The current machines can never be AGI. They're just weighted random next token generators. They have no ability to goalset, and I doubt anyone would be able to construct such a system with current LLMs.

They're also wrong a lot, at least with coding. Or even when they're "right," I'm still going to go back and refactor it so it's maintainable and remove half the garbage it adds.

There's also nothing left to train with, since everything new is slop. I think the plateau was reached a few months back and we're just going to get diminishing returns.

The chatbots will continue to be used, but more as an oracle control mechanism for people who refuse to think.

Does anyone with experience with Mini PCs have any recommendations?

I don't need much and would like to be less dependent on laptops as I feel like my heavy usage wears them down.

Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the future of tech... Why?

I just realized how many itch.io games/projects have the "Olivia Hill Rule". And for those who don't know what that is, it's basically just like those CoCs you see in a lot of FOSS projects, but somehow much simpler and much worse and it applies to both users AND contributors.

I guess any politician that criticizes the sacred cow country is going to be FBI investigated for now on.

Problem is that a lot of people in the right see artistic pursuits as "useless" or something for leftoids. The same goes for supporting artists in their endeavors

@merchantHelios ys series (archetypal action rpgs), trails series (imagine the platonic form of a jrpg in your head but with actual writing), xanadu series (historically fantasy but last entry kind of did an urban high school setting to cash in on those persona $$$$$), https://www.falcom.co.jp/vantage/index_e.html honorable mention for vantage master which is a pretty good srpg that in a gigachad move they officially translated and made freeware 20+ years ago
