The Corn Demons:
Corn is virtually indigestible to the human system and you get very little nutrition from it compared with other grains. If you eat enough of it, or if you compress it into syrup and eat it, it makes you fat even as you starve, and it rots you from the inside out.
Corn originated in South America and was spread north during the height of Cahokia/Mississippian civilization circa 1200 AD. Legends about its origin are pretty consistent in that it was given to humanity through dark witchcraft.
The Aztec gods (demons) ruled central and South America until Cortez deposed the Aztecs, but South America never really converted en masse. Mexico especially turned against Catholicism for a pretty long period of its history, and even now, people there turn to syncretic shit like Santa Muerte long before they'll actually say Catholic prayers. Anyway, the US started to use corn syrup as a substitute for sugar post-1959 since sugar was mostly sourced from Cuba and they had a communist revolution then, which was followed by embargoes. 1959 is also around the time the CIA was really ramping up mkultra, around the time drugs/sex/rock'n roll were being used to spread cult devotions, and in the midst of the spiritual weirdness unleashed on the US in the 1960s.

Wow! I didn't expect many Poast users to boost this post, given that a lot of them have Telescam IDs in their bios.
I'm a little late to this, but I feel the need to mention it because I feel like these people are just going to move to Telegram, if they already haven't.
Telegram is NOT a better alternative to Discord. It asks for your phone number (huge red flag), lies about being end-to-end encrypted (encryption is done server-side), is centralized, and not entirely FOSS (server-side software is closed source). Look into decentralized/self-hosted solutions instead.
I personally recommend hosting an XMPP server. Install an XMPP server stack that supports multi-user-chats and host your discussions there. With XMPP, you can sign up for an account on any server and talk to anyone, including people from other servers. There are even modernized web-clients like Movim which make it more user friendly.
For private/direct messages, you can also end-to-end encrypt them using OMEMO. Just don't use them for public MUCs or you will end up having problems. You really don't need to encrypt a public chat anyway.

Taxation would probably be somewhat more moral if the penalty for not paying them was either:
a.) Exile from the city/country - This really can only be done in small countries or city-states like The Republic of Cospaia back in the 1400s. I can't see a large country like the US implementing such thing.
b.) Denial of government services - This would effectively render the government a private service, but I'd expect the government would try to ban any non-government organization from forming competing services, otherwise you would effectively have an anarcho-capitalist or panarchist system. You would also have some socialists object to this as this would also make free healthcare or UBI impossible and the rich can simply not pay taxes by just hiring private security, doctors, etc for themselves, but they pretty much already do that anyway.
