got an hdmi to composite converter for my CRT. before you ask, it doesn't support progressive scan even though it has component inputs so i didn't wanna' risk getting something that just wouldn't work.

it's not too bad, but it only supports widescreen resolutions for some reason then squishes it down to 4:3, so i first have to stretch 4:3 to widescreen and have it squish it back down to 4:3 lol.

the crt does have a widescreen mode, but obviously you lose a lot of the top and bottom of the screen.

but as far as color and input lag goes it's perfect as far as i can tell. played some f-zero on it and it worked really well. only other issue i have is overscan and screen position, which i unfortunately can't TRULY fix because i don't have the remote for the CRT. i can dial in settings in the NVIDIA control panel to change the display area but it still isn't perfect and i'm still losing a little bit of screen space elsewhere that way.

@alyx it's totally fair to not think they look like they should, or think they don't follow the same art direction well enough.

for my money though i think it's worth the upgrade. the old games are still around, or you can play them with raytracing turned off anyway, so nothing is really lost. i generally think those old games look better with a fresh coat of delicious lighting.

there are some areas that get a little weird, but yeah typically i think they look great. perhaps not exactly as they were originally made, but overall a better feel and perhaps even what the devs wanted it to look like but just didn't have the tech available to do so, in some situations.
