@LukeAlmighty piss filter I THINK came from the matrix. The color grading was very intentionally done, but then everyone wanted to be exactly like the matrix. This affected the final cut of blade runner for instance.

The trend just hit gaming a little bit later, like a lot of Hollywood stuff has.

I actually didn't even touch a windows computer until maybe 4th grade. Some of my younger memories are on an ancient Mac playing what would essentially be atari ports.

@LukeAlmighty it's weird that it had a resurgence lately. Like guys... We left this in the 16bit era for a reason...

@berkberkman @LukeAlmighty bomb rush cyberfunk is another one that just came out with the same style. Anything with cel shading is still gonna look good pretty much forever. Simple shading, solid/flat colors. That can scale very easily.

@LukeAlmighty a really big thing I keep seeing that I hate with a passion is dithered transparency. I get that it saves on resources but it looks sooooo bad.

@Mr_NutterButter @LukeAlmighty valve definitely has their fair share of weaknesses, but relative to every other company they're extremely good.

i think part of it is because they are a private company. the only people with stock in the company are the employees. that's such a better way to do business than going public and having random ass rich guys dictating shit.
