What do you want to be memory-holed in 2026?
What do you want people to remember about 2025?

The maintainer of icecat was diagnosed with lung cancer. Icecat is a really cool browser project that really cares about protecting privacy and giving back control to the users. It served as an inspiration for me and many other people <3
Edit: This isn't the maintainer of IceCat, it's an unofficial binary distribution.

My answer: It will still be alive, but in name only. Kind of the way the telephone system (ATM, SONET, SDH) is still alive. It's there, but it's not how data is actually moved anymore.

I expect that USD vs. $currency forex markets will still be present, and people will still look to them, but large transactions will almost universally be settled using an agreeable mixture of commodity futures, gold certificates, equities, and crypto.

The *major* change will be that the US will not be able to borrow meaningful amounts of money from the FED anymore without panicking markets, so government spending will be massively curtailed.

By the year 2060:

1. Bretton Woods system with USD reserve currency is dead, because you just cannot print infinity dollars without collapsing the system.

2. System is - despite all odds - still alive, because it lives on debt, and nobody wants to borrow money that is going to *increase* in value.

What say ye?

I'm interested in book suggestions for the new year. (Fiction & nonfiction!)
What's something that you would save if all other writing was to be lost to time?
What's something new that you think really stands out?
What series you would love to read all over again with a fresh look?

Damn, MattKC doing God's work and making an application that turns a Linux install into a Wii U gamepad. Super important actually, because Wii Us NEED that Gamepad to function and they are A) region locked and B) no longer repaired by Nintendo. This is extremely good for ensuring the console doesn't become little more than a paper weight.
