@beardalaxy I think one of the Starmen.net people actually went to Japan and saw Itoi himself, and he openly gave approval to the fan translation. Nintendo doesn't care because they don't actually own the Mother series. Itoi still owns the entire Mother IP.
I completely understand why NoA doesn't want to localize it. That game is full of implied sociopolitical commentary that may be alienating and seemingly contradictory to Nintendo's perceived values. Not to mention the drag-queen like characters who were openly stated to be based off of Itoi's LGBT friends.
Westerners also don't realize that Mother 3's reception was actually lukewarm in Japan. Not only did it ditch the modern setting that the first two games were known for, it also had an implied message that it was evil (though Itoi openly said that it's all up to interpretation).
@Mr_NutterButter At that point AI will start to feed off its own generated content, causing the output to worsen in quality. This is known as "model collapse" and nobody knows how to fix it. So AI generated content and new human generated content need to find a way to coexist otherwise AI will degrade in quality.
We are frequently asked how to help sponsor Alpine Linux. Now you can:

@codrus @mr_penguin Apparently, Facebook is banning any discussions about Linux, including blacklisting links to DistroWatch.
@gabriel AI models will naturally feed off each other, whether it's intentional or not.
@icedquinn What is this Rattata company about? What do they make.
@Aether Even if it wasn't intentional, it is bound to happen anyway. As more people post AI generated content, AI models will use said content.
Hey guys, it's my birthday today and the best present would be if you went and gave my upcoming game, God's Disdain, a wishlist on Steam! I'd also appreciate signal boosting and letting other people know about the game :D
I've been working on this game for nearly a decade and it is finally coming out on March 14th, being free for everyone! It'll be completely unencrypted and DRM free as well, so anyone can mod and share it.
It's a mix of the classic Dragon Quest games and Elder Scrolls, with a turn-based RPG battle system and a world where every NPC is named and follows their own unique schedules. The story follows Tamiko and Kenshin, two young adults who are trying to stop a plague that has been killing all of the plant life on their continent. The main story cutscenes have full voice acting and make use of paintings to show off key moments!
There will be a demo available on February 3rd since the game is part of the RPG Maker Festival 2025. I hope you guys will enjoy it :)

It's almost creepy to me, hearing about how so many people born deaf, upon gaining the ability to hear, remark how quiet the sun is. They grow up assuming that it should be very loud.
I keep imagining as if it should, but for some reason we don't hear it, and deaf people have this instinct that it should. Like a cool horror prompt.
@PurpCat @KaiserKitty I swear the vast majority of them (if they are real and not paid by Microsoft) are complaining about the littlest shit. "My Bluetooth headphones didn't work", GET NORMAL, WIRED HEADPHONES YOU FUCKING SYBARITE!!!
But I'm pretty sure a huge chunk of them are Microsoft shills. Microsoft knows that they are alienating people with Windows slowly going SaaS. There is a good chance that the Linux market share might bump to 10% in the coming years. It may not be much but it's a significant dent in Microsoft's near monopoly, especially when the desktop PC has been largely phased out by smartphones. So of course, they are going to find ways to subvert it, whether that be with Drew DeVault-esque drama, spreading disinformation or negative stereotypes about Linux, or trying to EEE it by buying seats at the Linux Foundation.
