re: gamedev

@coolboymew Thanks. But I didn't compose any of it. That music was composed by Beau Buckley on OpenGameArt (repository site for stock game assets).

gamedev

Replaced the sprite for the teleporting wizard boss with a sprite of my own. Just one more to go!

In most cases, I want people to go to the trouble of finishing their work. Nothing worse than a series which suffers from sequelitis, either due to the artist or the suits. As much as I love the Drizzt books, for instance, there certainly didn't need to be as many of them as there were.

Games are different, because if the core mechanical systems and sandbox are fun enough, then a game being mod-compatible means it can theoretically have infinite content. I still play L4D2 because it's the best zombie game ever made and Steam Workshop support means it will literally never stop new stuff; some of it might even be good!

Your poll, intentionally or not, treats games as "modern consumable product" numbered to infinity where they have little or no replay value, and the beautiful thing about games is that even controlled single-player experiences can be breeding grounds for self-imposed challenges.

@bonifartius Mario works because the stories are simple and are completely isolated from any timeline. The can theoretically go on forever.

Though in terms of beloved and well known series, a lot of them either ended willingly or were just cut short due to time or financial constraints. One would argue that they would've lost their charm if they went on forever.

@rher I'm tired of people posting the word. That's all. I have nothing against them in general.

I hate, that even after so many years, the list of "lies and deformations caused by the school system" still keeps on growing.

@beardalaxy I think one of the Starmen.net people actually went to Japan and saw Itoi himself, and he openly gave approval to the fan translation. Nintendo doesn't care because they don't actually own the Mother series. Itoi still owns the entire Mother IP.

I completely understand why NoA doesn't want to localize it. That game is full of implied sociopolitical commentary that may be alienating and seemingly contradictory to Nintendo's perceived values. Not to mention the drag-queen like characters who were openly stated to be based off of Itoi's LGBT friends.

Westerners also don't realize that Mother 3's reception was actually lukewarm in Japan. Not only did it ditch the modern setting that the first two games were known for, it also had an implied message that it was evil (though Itoi openly said that it's all up to interpretation).

@druid individualism is great, hence why i had to distinguish it from (at least) the usa's superficial treatment of it. it's the kind of trap that makes people think they don't have to work together to get shit done and build functional orgs and communities

@Mr_NutterButter At that point AI will start to feed off its own generated content, causing the output to worsen in quality. This is known as "model collapse" and nobody knows how to fix it. So AI generated content and new human generated content need to find a way to coexist otherwise AI will degrade in quality.
