@alyx from what I can ascertain, they are rendered entirely differently from polygons so perhaps looking at it through that lens is a mistake. There may very well be an entirely different algorithm that decides where they are placed when thinking of 3d space. As I understand it, polygons have the illusion of depth whereas volumetric pixels have actual depth. I don't know exactly how they are rendered, but it seems that they require the CPU to do so rather than the GPU so my immediate thought is that they require a higher degree of accuracy to render properly.
They're cool though, insanely good for physics simulations (like Teardown) and not needing to be textured. Instead of tricking the player into thinking they're looking at depth, it is what it says on the can, actual depth.
Then you get into weird fucking stuff like Dreams which is neither voxels nor polygons but something called "signed distance fields" which I am entirely in the dark on.
@Jazzy_Butts @fluffy @Mr_NutterButter this isn't what the founding fathers would have wanted
@Jazzy_Butts @fluffy @Mr_NutterButter I got a knife pulled on me by a dyke for shoving her fat friend that called my brother gay back in like 5th grade. I honestly can't remember what happened after that but I'm still here so it couldn't have been that bad.
@fluffy @Jazzy_Butts @Mr_NutterButter is it so hard to realize that the same propaganda machine that would get parents to circumcise their boys to get them to stop masturbating could also get people to hate weed because mexican immigrants brought it with them into the states? ![]()
@fluffy @Mr_NutterButter if there is that kind of weed being sold more frequently, then i don't condone it. but it's like you're not even reading your own links that you're sending me and are just googling things and looking at the headlines.
the problem here is that what is being sold as medicinal marijuana actually shouldn't be branded as such. it's just recreational marijuana with a different package. it's not even what doctors are recommending and the vast majority of people who are using it don't even realize that.
CBD oil, at least in utah, can only contain 0.5% THC until it actually becomes illegal. i use it and you literally feel zero high from it. it just makes me capable of thinking for longer periods of time without blanking out (though it doesn't get rid of it entirely and sometimes i don't like taking it because time feels like it drags on since i'm used to blanking out for extended periods of time).
also, it bothers me when news sites don't link to the actual study but just who did the study, because i can't look at the actual study, only the news website talking about it.
i think i managed to find it though: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0230167#sec008
regardless, my point stands that the people who are seeking out medicinal marijuana aren't really potheads, they're using it over using something that doesn't work as well for them. the unfortunate part is that they are not receiving the right amount of THC that they should be. the failure point is the retail, not the patients, and certainly not actual medicinal marijuana itself.
@fluffy @Jazzy_Butts @Mr_NutterButter WEED KILLS BRAIN CELLS AND LOWERS YOUR IQ!!!! WE SHOULD BAN PROPAGANDA THAT SAYS WEED IS GOOD!!
*posts picture glorifying people who drink alcohol that literally does those things if you partake in it of the same amount but also includes dying if you do too much of it in one sitting*
alcohol is worse than weed and that's not even up for debate. alcohol is only still legal because if it wasn't, the majority of the nation would still do it anyway but underground and way less safe and we'd have prohibition 2 which would also give us CIA 2 if we don't already have it. this is also why guns probably haven't been banned wholesale yet either. but weed has been outlawed in the US for a looong time over what was originally just sensationalized racism.
@fluffy @Mr_NutterButter " the main use of medical marijuana is recreational"
yeah... sure.........
recreational marijuana is the stuff that you wanna go for if you're actually looking to get high. actual medicinal marijuana (rather than people self-medicating with whatever they've got) is typically lower in THC or may not even contain it at all in the case of things like CBD supplements. for someone that's all "420 weed blaze it bro" they are going to find that medicinal marijuana doesn't really cut it for them. the point of medicinal marijuana isn't to make you high, it's to treat your problems. if you get a little bit floaty in the process, maybe it's an added benefit, maybe it's something someone who is taking it won't like. with my epilepsy meds, i'd lose a shit ton of weight (which was bad being underweight as it was), have severe depressive episodes, or just flat out have more seizures. it actually took me three years for me to feel somewhat normal after i stopped taking them. i would have switched to medicinal marijuana in a heartbeat if i could have back then... which directly disproves your other point below too:
"there is no merit to the use of weed in the place of other medical substances, a belief that is, as you have noticed, shared by most doctors."
idk what study you were reading or what you think i saw/said but it literally says most of them think patients should be able to have access to it, with the researcher even saying that some don't recommend it just because they think they'd get their license revoked.
@Jazzy_Butts @fluffy @Mr_NutterButter the difference is that the weedcracker probably doesn't have a firearm
@fluffy @Mr_NutterButter also this shit in these memes are more like recreational use and heavy use of it at that, not actual medicinal marijuana but people who "self medicate" with shit they buy from jorge at the 7/11 downtown that may or may not be laced so they keep coming back to him because it's "good shit."
some of this is super strawman too, no weed smoker out there is saying they are literally steve jobs because they smoke weed, get real. there probably aren't very many that think there are absolutely zero negative health effects either.
@fluffy @Mr_NutterButter >not the topic at hand
dude you're responding to my post, you don't get to decide what the topic at hand is. i'm saying it's much better to use than anything else and even if it does come with its issues i'd rather use medicinal marijuana than any of the shit they put me through during high school with my epilepsy. god dammit none of this talk technically follows the topic at hand which was just that my landlord is retarded xD
>selection bias
what, like the majority of doctors that agree? xD i mean we really shouldn't be pointing fingers toward doctors in general regardless though, considering how many said covid vaccines were totally safe. the difference here is that there was fuck all studies behind those and the docs were still recommending them and saying they were totally safe and would protect you against covid19 and the variants, whereas with medicinal marijuana there have been a LOT of studies done and some doctors would still rather prescribe three different anti-depressants that literally have "suicidal thoughts" as a side effect 🤡
@Sighs @Mr_NutterButter @fluffy at least you know yourself enough to realize that! medicinal marijuana usually has a very low amount of THC though so it isn't any more addicting than like, ibuprofen is or whatever lol. it's not as much getting addicted to the drug as it is getting addicted to not feeling whatever the drug helps you with. you aren't gonna' have some CBD and then go into a panic attack if you don't have it for a while, you might just feel more pain than usual or get anxious again or whatever and want to take it again. a lot of people don't even experience withdrawals from normal weed lol.
i don't really have an addictive personality, i'll take a couple of shots if i'm celebrating with friends or just need to unwind a little bit but that's like twice a month max. i've got bottles of alcohol in my cupboard from like 2 years ago and i just threw out some hard lemonade because it was taking up too much room in our fridge and nobody was drinking it lol.
@roboneko @Sighs @Mr_NutterButter @fluffy i've got a friend who doesn't smoke very much at a time but he does a few times a week (he'll make $100 of weed last an entire year). it's kind of remarkable to see the difference in his performance in pretty much everything. he's a ball of anxiety otherwise and can't keep focused.
@fluffy @Sighs @Mr_NutterButter heavy recreational use is pretty lame, it makes you retarded if you do it too much and i've been around enough people who have done it too much to know.
but like alcohol, just drinking a little bit every once in a while to mellow out, ease some stress or something can be nice. everything in moderation. some people just really don't know when to stop and make it their lifestyle... that goes for weed, alcohol, porn, fuck even things like exercising or eating fruit can be bad for you if you do it too much or if you do it the wrong way.
as far as medicinal use goes, though, yeah i think it should definitely be used when possible because it's way easier on your system than prescription drugs are. for some people the latter will unfortunately be necessary, but if you can get away with some medicinal marijuana then why the hell not?
that study is interesting though because it asks a lot of different doctors in different fields and different states, even ones that ban the use of it. so to get a number like 56% saying it should be legalized federally is actually pretty good imo. 82% of cancer-related doctors were in agreeance and that's pretty remarkable.
@Sighs @Mr_NutterButter @fluffy if you're smoking straight tobacco you're much better off than if you're smoking cigarettes. they put so much shit inside those things and that's really where the carcinogens come from.
smoking weed isn't really that great for your lungs either, though. i've never smoked it, just eaten it. you get a better high that way too in my opinion. smoking hits you quick and then it's gone, but if you eat it the high takes a bit to settle in and it lasts a lot longer, it's more mellow and just satisfying instead of coughing your lungs out and feeling like shit.
@fluffy @Mr_NutterButter if someone is against recreational use i'm not really gonna' hold that against them.
but i think it is a bit hypocritical to not want marijuana being used while also being totally fine with alcohol/tobacco being out there totally legal for 21+. way worse for you than weed.
when it comes to medicinal use though, i think it's a no-brainer and like i said, the literal doctors and pharmacists i know that study this kind of thing all agree it helps a lot of people that way and is much safer than actual prescriptions. if the alternative is there and it works it should be taken, and stuff like "anti-depressant" meds should only be used as a last resort.
@Mr_NutterButter marijuana is a depressant, works a lot like alcohol. could make someone more aggressive technically just depending on several factors.
if you're taking it specifically for medicinal means though, it barely even gets you high. just calms things down in your brain/cns a bit (or a lot i guess depending on how much you're taking).
@icedquinn @Mr_NutterButter they definitely can't, but i'm not talking about actual law, rather this specific example is my lease agreement
they're like "we think that federal law supersedes state law, so if we find any marijuana even for medicinal use at your house we will kick you out." like, just tell me you don't want marijuana here bitch. don't use federal law as an excuse because we are not in federal jurisdiction.
but another example would be if the federal government banned handguns, and a bunch of states still thought we should be able to have them. then you rent a property in one of those states and they're like "yeah sorry, you can't have handguns if you want to rent here because federal law is more important." it's technically their property so they can choose whoever the fuck gets to stay there and what they can and can't possess, right? like a private business saying they don't want people open carrying in the walmart or whatever. but to use federal law as a cop out is so fucking retarded.
