@PhenomX6 @Eschatology @Shadowman311 @bleedingphoenix I'm guessing it's the same thing as the fabled Nintendo Ninjas
@RehnSturm256 build a jacuzzi and they will come okay?
@YeetLibs yeah a paintball can be pretty damaging if you get hit in a soft spot. Idk if you've ever gone before but you come out pretty bruised up xD she's getting charged for that for sure.
@LukeAlmighty don't you just love politicians?
That's how I feel about our election tomorrow
@fluffy yes but only if everyone is fucking each other
@matana @LukeAlmighty ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
where's the marriable loli mod???
@matana wait i didn't mean to post this here lol oh well
@Corfiot @cassidyclown @alyx which is probably why the stuff that stuck with me in school is the stuff i was actually interested in and looked into more on my own time, or weird little things that popped up along the way that were the direct result of me asking questions or doing something weird on an assignment.
the only reason i know any specifics about wars or just a lot of history stuff in general is because of sabaton lmao. i now know all about the swiss guard and the sack of rome because of this one song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaTn3oRPtzg
@Corfiot @cassidyclown @alyx i am one of those fucking weird people that just have a lot of random knowledge about weird shit. like, now i know how toothpaste made for sensitive teeth works xD or i know the numbers of all of my teeth because it's the easiest way to tell the dentist what tooth you're having problems with.
tbh the only way i know anything at all is just weird situations that arise and i either have to learn about something to overcome an issue or i just get curious and go on a knowledge adventure xD
@ROYALTY yeah this is your player character eating the finger, not a hypothetical situation in real life where you'd have to eat your own finger :) all that happens is you have a penalty of negative 1 while using that hand. that means if you wield a greatsword and have a +10 modifier on your attack roll, if you eat a finger it'll just go down to a +9, doesn't really matter what finger it is.
@alyx @Corfiot @cassidyclown one mile is 5280 feet, and the only reason why i know that off the top of my head is because i've had to look it up so many god damn times xD if i asked any of my friends i don't think they would know the answer.
i definitely agree, that's what i like about the metric system, it's all in factors of ten so it makes it super easy.
the reason i've looked up how many feet are in a mile so many times i can't remember, but it's probably because of d&d and trying to figure out the distance of things in regards to rules for spells, travel, etcetera so i can hone in on making things work correctly for the rest of the world to make it seem more realistic (d&d is almost solely measured in feet otherwise i'd be doing something else). i feel like most people probably don't need to know how many feet are in a mile, and if they do need to know, then they can easily find out or they'll already know because they work in a field where that knowledge is common.
i feel like for the most part though, people won't need it, because if you're measuring something in miles or kilometers it's a long distance and it's going to be pretty ballpark-y either way. if you're measuring, like, a race track in kilometers you wouldn't really need to know how many meters it is, and likewise for miles. a 3.3 mile race track is just that, we don't really need to know how many feet or yards it is.
a yard is roughly the size of a meter btw, just a tiny bit shorter, just in case you didn't know! it can help me visualize how long a meter is when i just think of it being about 3 feet.
for those of you that play #dnd or just #ttrpg in general i've got a question.
if you had a +10 on your attack roll and found out that you could eat one of your fingers in order to learn a language you see or hear, would you trade a -1 to that attack roll in order to learn a language that nobody else in the party knows that could provide useful for the current setting?
if people used decimeters for measuring height or distance or really anything maybe i'd be happier with metric system, but they don't. what's the point of having something if you don't really use it? for what it's worth i still like it more overall but imperial definitely does have its benefits.
>My precise measurement would be 6 feet, 3 and a half inches. Which sucks to say or type.
6'3.5" easy.
"six foot three point five" or "six foot three and a half" for speaking. it's not that bad. it's even easier if you just say a whole number, because you can simple it more to "six four" and people will know that you are six feet and four inches tall. even if you're just saying the number of your height in centimeters that's still taking one word off and sometimes syllables.
last time i had my height officially measured i was 5'9 3/4" but i always just say i'm 5'10" because it's close enough anyway and the effect of gravity on your height could be that big of a difference anyway (it can be as much as an inch difference). it is much easier for me to just ballpark saying i'm 5'10" ("five ten") than saying i'm 177cm ("one seven seven" or god forbid "one hundred seventy seven").
if we could use meters and decimeters in the same way, perhaps i could say i am 1 meter and 8 decimeters, which could be written as 1'8" although, then it would be unsuitably less precise for measuring height imo. feet/inches is a pretty good sweet spot of convenience and accuracy.
i believe the clothing world tends to use inches as well. why, i'm not sure, but that's standard there for measurements. maybe it has something to do with the fact that it ISN'T as precise as centimeters, so there can be a little bit of wiggle room if things weren't measured perfectly or if someone bends the wrong way, etcetera.
it seems like most of the world uses a mix of both depending on the application and that's just dandy with me.
re: guys i can't stress how CRITICAL it is to do some of your own research when it comes to anything medical.
