prison doesn't exactly get a company's money back to them so that's why the fine exists. it can be good for other crimes but if someone stole something from me i wouldn't want them to just go to jail, i want my shit back or to be compensated for it lol.

the debate ought to be around how much he's being fined, not necessarily if he should have been fined or not. did nintendo really lose 10mil because of this dude? who knows but probably not. they may have lost 10mil in like, perceived value or some shit like that. but it's clear they at least missed out on some money since there were people who were literally paying team xecuter to pirate games. if someone pirates a game it's usually because they can't afford it or they wouldn't have bought it in the first place, but if you pay to pirate games then you could have at least afforded one of those games so it gets a bit more sketch.

@Mr_NutterButter he pulled stupid shit on people so i don't really give a fuck. he didn't do it with just the switch either, he's been around since i wanna say the xbox days.

it's like, imagine some guy made a closed-source program that you could employ on windows and it would automatically crack any software you downloaded, but you had to pay like $50 for it. then if you tried to change anything with the program it would literally just fry your motherboard and all your components. it's even worse than that because the pirated software you had to pay to get access to also.

like it isn't just some guy that made a way to hack your switch and do things like run homebrew apps on it and backup save files and stuff, or run android or linux, these guys were 100% in it for the piracy scene and they were charging people for it. and they were stealing code from other devs and adding malicious shit to it. just not a good situation in general.

the other guys he was in cahoots with got off and he took the fall for them. the risk you take for making dirty money at someone else's expense i guess.

i also have no idea how much team xecuter actually made in profit but it seems like it was fairly lucrative if they stuck around so long. perhaps he'll be able to pay a decent chunk of that fine via liquidation or something.

i think fines in general are pretty retarded unless there was actual money lost, but nintendo can kind of argue that there was because they were likely doing repairs on bricked consoles or at least spending time telling people they couldn't repair their bricked console, and in the case of normal piracy it's really hard to prove that you're actually losing money but in this case, it's probably more likely because normies were still paying money to pirate games instead of buying them or just grabbing them for free. 10 mil is pretty damn steep but again, idgaf because the dude and the team in general is pretty scummy so he's kinda' just getting what was coming to him.

can't say i feel bad for doug bowser needing to pay nintendo money for the rest of his life. dude was a scumbag and baited normies into purchasing the ability to hack their console and pirate games, and if you even tried to modify anything about their custom OS it would brick your console. fuck him.

@xianc78 i had a job at a movie theater in high school for my first job, and that's when i found out my seizures were bad enough to prevent me from working as well as they wanted me to. accidentally spent way too long doing dishes a few times and they thought i was doing time theft lol. that job sucked ass.

in 7th grade, my 9th grade friend used my locker to sell soda out of and gave me some of the money he made from it lol.

@xianc78 yeah i mean cooking is a really good skill to have at any age. i was more referring to time limits though, like i think people under 16 aren't allowed to work any more than 15 or 20 hours a week here. which makes sense man i was already having a shitty enough time in school 40 hours a week as it was, not to mention all the homework they send you back with.
