They are not the same. Video game cartridges use ROM chips (which often use NOR). Flash drives use NAND. Also, flash drives are completely re-writable while the only re-writable part of a video game cartridge would the battery-backed RAM if it has one.

Please do keep it in consideration though. I think physical copies are a great way to reward those who actually support developers. I think that's why you still see indie developers finding ways to make physical releases of their games.

I think IndieBox releases physical copies of their games on flash drives. I thought they went out of business, but apparently they're back. I might consider striking a deal with them when/if I finish a game worth publishing.
