>4/5 games are Nintendo exclusives

@fightknightHERO @WashedOutGundamPilot i remember when mcdonald's used to have N64s and Gamecubes in the playland, we'd go and play smash bros there against totally random kids, was a fun time.

RT this pic if you are on an instance where fun things are fun.

@xianc78 oh yeah i'm just talkin about the windows versions haha. but it could have still been written in assembly then, idk, just assumed it was C because that makes sense.

but yeah i'd be using the same plugin, which does render stuff in 3D, but it would kind of be like the phantasy star thing, just more detail. without thinking about it too much, my first thought would be like in the horror game i'll be making, some chase or hiding sequences that briefly go into first person to make things tense. something along those lines.

straight facts

@WolfJay bruh this meme is from 2018 😂

are game consoles not allowed to have sequels from the previous console? or ports? or cross gen releases? the ps5 has all of those things.

nearly every playstation exclusive game that exists on ps5 is either a remaster/port or a sequel.

but since 2018 the switch's exclusives have been stuff like astral chain, an expansion to mario 3d world, a shit load of mario kart 8 tracks and more coming, animal crossing, two fire emblems, link's awakening remake, luigi's mansion 3, two mario party games, METROID DREAD, mario strikers/tennis, bayonetta 3, kirby forgotten land (which was amazing), cadence of hyrule and there is another full zelda game coming soon too.

on this list, you have one cross gen release, five enhanced ports, four sequels, and two new games. the amount of exclusive games for the console weighs out the ports, so this meme fails even by its own merit.

right now, with a longer PS5 lifespan than the switch did at this time, you have a pretty similar story. uncharted 4 and last of us 2 are both ports (neither of which are getting any content updates like most of the switch ports have). god of war is a cross release. ratchet and clank is a sequel to a remake. there are only five exclusive games to the ps5 itself, compared to the switch's six in this meme alone (there were other ones like 1-2 switch, snipperclips, arms, xenoblade chronicles 2, and others).

also this is a bit of a strawman, nobody thought the wii u games were bad, it's just that everyone thought that the console itself was lame and you didn't need that second screen (as evidenced by them being ported to switch). they released a lot of the same games because the wii u didn't sell well so it was a bit hard to get your hands on these games, so it gave people the opportunity to grab the games and get a little bit of extra content (or a LOT of content if we're talking about mario kart 8).

the ps5 on the other hand, is the next generation to one of the highest selling consoles of all time. ports of ps4 games are theoretically less necessary, because it's the same game you've probably played before but the resolution and frame rate are higher. as opposed to just never being able to play it at all, and then porting it to a new console that's very popular and adding content on top of that.

coming from the perspective of a PC player mainly, the PS5 genuinely doesn't really have anything I want to play and so i haven't felt the need to get one. i got a switch because i like the games on it, namely smash ultimate and the fact i can mod the hell out of it. i could do it on PC now, in 2022, but there are still some concessions to be made so that's why i keep my switch around. i have a ps4 pro, and most stuff is still coming out on ps4 so if i wanted to play it i could definitely still get it there but i'm just not a huge fan.

it's cool if you aren't a huge fan of nintendo, but really dude your console war behavior is pretty ignorant and it makes you look a bit stupid. you're at the point of being a hypocrite and that's not too cool :P

@lapin do YOU know where the candy mountain is?

that's right!

@xianc78 yup, it's definitely impressive but things like that are why I'm hesitant to use it for the time being unless I wanted to do something super specific. I haven't looked into it much yet, but I would consider using it for certain sections of a game, for instance, something that went first person for a bit.

RPG maker itself is written in either c++ or c#, but the games all run on html5. At least that's what the last two do. Rmxp-rmvxa all used ruby for the game itself, and before then I believe it was all just C but you couldn't edit any scripts, everything had to be done in the engine itself.

@xianc78 honestly i think it's mainly for being able to do extra unity stuff and also to be able to port to whatever you want instead of only being able to build for pc and mobile. i don't know tooooo much about unity but i guess you could add 3D elements into your game, particle effects, etc.

it pretty much just gives you an easier to understand base and then you can do extra stuff with it that's already been made for unity.

rpg maker 1-3 on ps2 were 3D rpg makers, i'd love to see them do something else like that but for PC so we can do a bit more with it. rpg maker has always been the easiest engine to use and those 3D ones are no different. the only things that really hold them back are that you have to use a controller to make the game (which sucks ass) and that you can't import your own stuff.

rpg maker MZ has 3D particle effects for the animations now by default, so that's pretty cool. there are also some really talented people that have made plugins so you can use rpg maker to make a 3D game, which is really interesting. i've thought about doing it for whatever game i work on next, i'll just have to see what the options are when i get to that point.

@xianc78 macs are actually pretty powerful, they just aren't utilized very well and apple likes to fuck developers a lot by just completely deprecating backends. watched DF's video about resi8 running on mac and it was pretty cool.

i honestly liked the rabbit hole stuff in sims 3 because it gave me a bit of time to focus on other sims. when i send sims somewhere and they are left to their own devices i feel like i have to babysit them otherwise they're gonna' shit themselves xD the sims AI has never been very good.

i probably won't end up playing sims 5 with paralives coming out, though. it'll probably have more content on launch. only thing that would get me to play sims 5 is if it had online multiplayer somehow, that would be kind of cool.

@iska@mk.starnix.network @matrix @LukeAlmighty a battery only lasting 3 hours is fine if it's a gaming device, but not when it's your phone and you need it to do other stuff.

the hardware of a lot of phones are better, but you need far more powerful hardware than what you're emulating does to actually emulate it.

phones don't usually have great cooling either, so if you're pushing it to the max for a long time it'll likely start throttling.

i don't wanna' play portable gamecube controller either lol, fuck that. smash ultimate was just a random example, controller be damned. i know you could just as easily get one of those controller attachment things for you phone as you could joycons.

the other thing you might be forgetting is that the switch came out in 2017. phones are just now available that can emulate it to an "okay" degree. most people who wanted a switch already have one, and most of the switch-exclusive games that have come out most people with a switch have already played (if they wanted to). the ps5 has been out for 2 years, has 5 exclusive games on it, and you can't buy it unless you pick it up from someone selling it higher than retail value. it's not really worth buying, whereas a switch technically still is (the only REAL competitor being the steam deck, but then you still have to fuck around with linux and emulation issues).

@xianc78 it's weird, rpg maker unite isn't really the next version of rpg maker, it's like an alternate version. at least, that's how i understand it. they are still developing MZ and will probably continue to make standalone software. i was excited for it originally, but after all the unity shit that's happened recently i definitely don't want to use it anymore.

@xianc78 i hope so too. sims 4 actually runs better than sims 3 does because it's not open world lol, so i think that may be why they did it. but maybe they'd be able to do it these days.

Whenever people search "alternatives to Mastodon" they find lists like "Awesome Fediverse", Fediverse.party, etc which exclude Soapbox on purpose for political reasons. We've tried getting added to those lists to no avail. We have an SEO problem. So if you're looking for a way to contribute, simply creating resources that include Soapbox would be very helpful.

Soapbox is powering some of the largest sites on the Fediverse, and so far word-of-mouth has been effective. But we still shouldn't let them silence us in that way.

@LukeAlmighty i'd rather use photoshop than anything else. and the shittiest video editor, corel videostudio, just because it has one feature that saves me a fuck load of time that nothing else does. and rpg maker, because i've put so much time into it that i know it like the back of my hand and learning anything else will take too much time from actually creating everything i want to.
